Hi Everyone,

It started innocently enough... :D I put lots of fabric up for sale last week. In the process of selling my wares, I 'met' a lot of wonderful people. One in particular noticed that I also lived in CO, so she inquired "where abouts?" It turns out there were just a few mountains between us - no problem. Boxermom aka Kimberly decided it would be fun if she came up for lunch to pick up her fabric from me. I was tickled pink, as I've never met anyone from this board before.

We had breakfast at a local eatery, then moseyed on over to Nuts and Bolts Needleworks just up the road a piece. Kimberly brought with her an awesome work in progress that needed a little something added to it, plus she had run out of one fabric and has searched everywhere, only to come up empty handed. Well, guess what? Kimberly found that and so much more today. Take a peek at her shopping foray, lol.

We had a blast and are looking forward to doing so again one of these days soon. :D

Happy sewing Kimberly!!

This is all I needed today.

Kimberly & I at the cutting table. Those are all HER fabrics, LOL.

Kimberly finds some of the $4 fabric. Yep, that's her cart there..

I sold Kimberly the fan fabric, she found the other one to compliment it.

Kimberly has done some serious shopping!!

Where quilters gather, fun happens. Kimberly has a wonderful sense of color. I wish now that I would've gotten a picture of her work in progress - it was absolutely awesome, and all her design, too!! She does very nice work!

Enjoyed meeting Karla and her hubby and the food was great.

I felt like a kid in a candy store. Ok, so I went a little over board, but I had fun. I got some material to go with others I already had and yes even found the one I have been looking for. I can now complete my mother-in-laws quilt. I even got a great edging to finish it off. Thank s Karla for turning me on to theis store.

Below are pics of the material from our adventure today and some are with the mmatching material I bought them to go with.

here is the all the matching material, unknown as to which I will use yet.

Ok, so here is everybody's mission if you choose to accept.

I now need a pattern for the African one, I would like for it to show off the African material the most. Here is how much there is...
African - almost 3 yrds
Diamonds - 2 yards
All the rest 1 yrd each.

Good luck, I will be looking threw the possible hundred or so patterns I have also.

littlehud 01-21-2010 06:35 PM

What a fun day for both of you. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Boxer mom 01-21-2010 06:43 PM

Hi Kimberly,

WOW Girl!!! You did some serious shopping!!! And MORE, even after I had to go!  That is so totally awesome! I can't believe how well you matched your African fabric, especially not even having it with you! What a wonderful grouping of fabrics to go with it. Now, if we can just get these other gals and gents to come up with a suitable pattern for you.. at least I did my part, ha ha.

Anyone else wanna make a road trip up here with Kimberly next time? I know where you can get some to die for fabrics, and right now a bunch of them are only $4 a yard, even some batiks! Can't be that, can ya? We've got lots of great places to eat up here, too. :P Come and get it.

Hi,

Nuts and Bolts Needleworks is in the beautiful mountains of Woodland Park, only 20 miles from Colorado Springs - straight up Hwy 24.

They opened the store after the local Ben Franklin went out of business in Aug 2008. They're going strong, have lots of fabrics, patterns, tools, sewing machines, yarns, books, magazines, classes - and fabulous employees! They all worked in the Ben Franklin fabric department for years and years. Very seasoned and very knowledgeable.

They have an online newsletter, too. Call them at 719-687-2272 to sign up, to get hours of operation, class info, etc. (No affiliation, just a good customer and one who has known these dear folks for years)

You're welcome. My pleasure. It IS wonderful to meet other members and quilters. Participating on this board is wonderful, learning so much is so helpful, but getting to actually meet someone, now, that's priceless! :-D

I love the African fabrics. I have a small collection, but none like those. I specially like the masks one. Can not help much with a pattern to combine them, but I do have a suggestion. Do you thing the masks will show better on a quilt if matched with a solid like black, gold or even the orange bertween the mask?

Maybe a square within a square, with the center rather large to show the masks, a solid narrow border and a wider border with the other fabrics. That will define where the masks fabric ends.

Just an idea to consider.

Gotta love it!
The fabric is awesome!

Oh, that sounds wonderful!! I would love to have someone in the group close enough to meet. My sis lives next door, but I want to meet a new person. It looks like you had a great time and the fabrics are great!

Having a new friend to take your LQS is a treat! You get to learn more about their likes and dislikes in fabrics and they just seem to infuse a certain kind of excitement into the process.

The store manager was all kinds of happy too, especially knowing that someone from the other side of the mountain had come to visit. I live in a smallish mountain town, so when we get visitors from other areas, it's extra special! :D

Hi Ronda,

If you're ever up this way for a drive, let me know, I'd love to meet a fellow quilter.
