Two Hearts in Love (finished my second quilt)

2 Attachment(s)
I finished my second quilt tonight!!! Yay!!! I created this pattern myself, using entirely 2" squares (and half-square triangles that combine to make 2" squares), so that was a fun, new experience. I'm calling it "Two Hearts in Love." I made it for my husband, and I plan to write up the pattern to give away on the Fool's Gold website of romance author Susan Mallery, whom I work for. And I machine quilted for the first time, so that was another fun learning experience. I did hearts and swirls around the entire border, which I learned at the free motion quilting project website because someone on here posted the link. (I love the Quilting Board!) So to pass on the link... http://www.freemotionquilting.blogspot.com/

Tomorrow, I'll start cutting fabric for the next one... yup, I'm hooked!

You did a wonderful job. I like how you made it a his heart and hers heart. I bet he will love it. Your quilting came out great as well. I'd say your a very talented person. Ain't being hooked so much fun. My hubby actually builds in extra time if we are going to be some where with fabric just so i can ooooooooooo and ahhhhhhhhhh and touch. I love the feel of fabric. Ah hum, I'm ok now. lol Thanks for sharing. can't wait to see #3.

LOL! Gotta love a husband who supports your habit, Cindy! Thank you for your kind words. I had so much fun watching this come together. I was inspired by a quilt I saw at a quilt show. It was a wall-hanging, a map of Texas done entirely out of small squares and triangles of fabric. The effect was very much like a mosaic, which is a hobby I've pursued for years. So I was really drawn to the pieciness of it. :) (That ought to be a word, if it's not.) I took a picture of that quilt with the creator's permission and have carried it around with my on my phone for over a year now. My quilt isn't nearly as good, but I'm proud of it as a first attempt for the mosaic effect in fabric.

excellent idea

It is very pretty--great job!!

Jingle 07-27-2012 08:27 PM

Yes, you are hooked. That is what I do, finish one then start another one. Wonderful work, just keep going.

Thank you so much! It was an experience, learning to machine quilt. I had lots of tension issues and would end up with birds nests on the back of the quilt. Pulled them out, started over... pulled them out, started over... It's just so strange that the tension would be completely fine, then when I came back the next day, it would be off. No changed settings. I think it might've had to do with the bobbin running low.

Here's the Texas quilt that inspired me to create a mosaic-like quilt... (I asked permission before I took the picture.)

JenelTX 07-28-2012 06:19 AM

I love the gradations of color around the state. And the boot border is a lot of fun.

Tweety2911 07-28-2012 09:57 AM

sewgarden 07-28-2012 12:48 PM

That's a great quilt. I get so inspired from everyone here. I haven't got enough time to try the things I'd like but one day I just might.

Thank you! Yes, I did make up the pattern. I have Adobe Illustrator on my computer, and I used it to draw out the quilt ahead of time and figure out sizes, etc. It's pretty awesome now to look back at that drawing, because the finished product looks just like the sketch. (Except I did a much wider border than I thought I would because I wanted it to be 60x70 inches, a nice lap size for my tall husband.)

I know what you mean!!! I don't want to send mine out to be quilted, so with my limited time, it took 4 months or so to make this quilt, start to finish. I have WAY more ideas than just 2-3 per year!

Cindy60545 07-29-2012 03:06 AM

Jenel, your a very talented lady. I love what you did for this quilt & can't wait to see more of your quilts.

Thank you so much! Last night, I started cutting for my next quilt. I actually have another that's ready for quilting, but I decided I want to make my stepson a quilt for Christmas, so I have to start (and finish) that one before I go back and quilt the one with the finished top.

Jenel, didn't you know that there are tension gremlins that come in the middle of the night and mess everything up on your machine? LOL
