Wow! I don't really understand how you did it, but it's beautiful! A serious art piece.

By "painting" do you mean all the colors are painted on? And that you began by just quilting shapes, which you then defined with paint? I especially love the little tendrils which resemble ears of corn. It's exquisite.

yes, I doodle-quilted my way around the quilt sandwich and then used inktense pencils and blocks to paint it. The back is what it looked like before painting (only in reverse). After I paintedone layer, I went back and shaded some places and added another layer in a couple areas to intensify the color. After all the coloring was done I quilted the leaves , feather and echos around the feather using glitter thread, but it doesn’t show up in the photo.

Thanks for explaining how you did this! I showed the photo to my son yesterday, who has just become interested in leather work and is creating his own designs and then making them: little wallets, pouches, coin purses, other "container" items, without patterns other than those in his head. Not at all the same as what you're doing, but I wanted to show him your incredible "quilt doodle" design and art. He was wowed.

Lovely doodle quilt. I haven’t done one for a while and this makes me want to set some time aside to do one. Love the colors.

Oh my goodness, that is stunning.

Wow, wow, Wow!!! Rob, this is truly a work of art ... just stunning! Your talents are so diverse ... from drawing/designing, fabric painting, use of color and free motion quilting. I love this art quilt and you inspire me to step out of my comfort zone. I bought the Mickey Lawler AQS class on fabric painting and I bought all the necessary supplies. One of these days I just need to jump in and do this.
BTW, so glad that you are feeling better. My hubby had his gall bladder removed a few years back and ran into some complications which made for a long recovery. As a retired RN, never again will I say that "Gall bladder surgery is a piece of cake".
