Should be a wonderful quilt.

Your blocks are beautiful! I love the tales that have been written about these quilts, and who knows.....it could be the very best kept secret in history! :)
Please keep us up to date on your progress! |
I was fascinated either way. Your blocks are lovely and your quilt will be very cool. I hope you keep making them and show your progress.

I love your blocks and you did such a beautiful job on them. Love to read the story along with the blocks. I have that book and have been thinking about making that quilt with civil war fabric which I have been collecting for about 2 years. Also have seen this quilt made up of repo 30's which was nice too. Are your blocks made up with civil war fabric? Thank you for sharing and keep us updated on your progress. Would love to see more blocks.

That was a interesting piece of information. Thank you, I enjoyed reading about these blocks. Nice work on the blocks too!

Thank you for this history lesson and your great blocks

Yes I am using civil war fabric.

There is an excellent book on this topic : Hidden in Plain View, a Secret History of Quilts and the Underground Railroad. authors are Jacqueline L. Tobin and Raymond G. Dobard. The paperback edition came out in 1999. With illustrations and family history of collections and recollections of descendants....

I have made several of these quilts and enjoy the "story". I learned a tremendous amount while doing these blocks from the book by Eleanor Burns and Sue Bouchard. My accuracy in piecing was pretty good but got so much better. Beautiful blocks and colors very similar to what I used.
