Your fabric choices are beautiful - your blocks are great. I am anxious to see the full quilt.

I have made one Eleanor's quilts but never bought into the idea that the quilts led slaves to freedom. My biggest problem was.......if the slaves knew what quilts to look to for direction then surely the slave owners and "bounty hunters" also knew what to look for in order to find them. What started as a heartwarming theory evaporated into legend, at least for me.

Just wanted to share my finished quilt. Whether the stories are true or not didn't matter to me, just loved the possibilities. This was a great learning how-to quilt for me.[ATTACH=CONFIG]489537[/ATTACH]

I've often seen blocks and underground quilts, but did not know the symbolism of each quilt/block. Thanks for sharing. Although there were some kind owners, most treated them like cattle or animals to be used and abused. It was not one of America's finest moments, but there are still those who think the Civil War has not ended and still hate people north of the Mason-Dixon line.

Here is what I think about the debunking of the Run Away Quilt stories. No one has "proved" anything about them. The stories about them may or may not be true. I am very skeptical about the experts who say things never happened when they have no evidence to prove what did happen. Among my other occupations, I am a historian and I am inclined to believe that there may be a great deal of truth in the stories of the Run Away Quilts. froggyintexas

I have Eleanor Burns book, and this pattern is on my Bucket List. I don't care if the story is true or not, I like the idea of it. I believe in fairy tales too!
