What a beautiful quilt! WOW! You did an amazing job & I am sure that Melissa will cherish it forever. It was such a loving thing for you to do for her. It breaks my heart to hear about any family losing everything in a fire. Thank You for sharing this.

I don't know which is more beautiful, your quilt or your heart, both are just lovely.

Bless your heart - I can only imagine the emotion YOU felt as you gave it to her - I just gave my two (dear!) stepdaughters quilts also.

A beautiful quilt, and a heartstring tugging story. I know she will always cherish this because of the love that it has included in each stitch.

Very beautiful! I can imagine how touched your step daughter was when she opened the gift. Very thoughtful of you.

As a side note, this is the first time I've looked at pictures of another's quilt and seen fabric that I have in my stash. :) I have several of those blue floral prints.

There is a little bit of a story about how and why I decided to make this quilt for her. Melissa is more like a daughter to me and so very dear to my heart and I had thought one day I wanted to make a quilt for her. Late 2008, two weeks before Christmas her family's home caught on fire and burned to the ground. Melissa and her family lost everything but the clothes on their backs.

Our community was very generous and quickly donations came in to replace their clothes, and most of the household needs. After the holidays Melissa shared with me that she lost all of her unicorn collection in the fire. She felt silly thinking about that but she had been collecting unicorm things since she was a little girl. Unicorn snoglobes and just anything that had a unicorn on it. Early 2009 I decided to make a quilt for Melissa with a Unicorn and fairy theme with plans to give it to her for Christmas.

I found most of my designs for this quilt at Embroidery Library. What a beautiful collection of fantasy designs to choose from. I secretly worked on this quilt for most of the year and finished the quilt in time for Christmas Eve. She was very happy and cried when she opened the gift.

Here are a few photos of the quilt, some closeups of the quilt blocks and the quilt label I made.

Kind regards,

Corry
