I would like to share with you all my lovely bedroom Jacobs Ladder quilt that i had started more than 6 years ago. On this course were did not use ONE single short cut and had to cut out each little square and stitch those together. You can imagine how long it took to cut those out - Fits my King size bed. When it came to assembling the quilt, the shapes did not match 100%. I unpicked, ran out of material to redo some blocks , irritation ran wild, etc. I eventually  gave up and threw it into the cupboard out of frustration. When i send my last quilt to be professionaly joined 2 months ago, i noticed an insert saying "If you have uncompleted quilts in the cupboard, we will finish them for you" I then remembered this quilt and could not believe that someone would finish someone elses "mess ups". Well off it went and i am so very glad i did send it. To me it is a master piece and those "corners that did not match" it is not an issue now, as the overall quilts design catches your eye and not the imperfections. So anyone out there who feels or has felt like me, IT DOES NOT MATTER! :P

Now my pride and joy - so glad i had it finished for me. A lesson learnt

it's a really pretty quilt. I want to do a scrappy quilt but I can't see the end result and I will porbably get started and throw it in the ufo pile. I just think everything has to be matched colors.

twospoiledhuskies 12-31-2010 08:14 AM

Wow, that is so pretty. You're right-you don't notice the mistakes. :-D

dunster 12-31-2010 08:21 AM

That is really pretty. You did a terrific job selecting the fabric and starting the quilt, and good for you for finding an alternative way to get it finished. I've never heard of a service that will finish a quilt for you. Was it terribly expensive? It seems like it would be harder to pick up someone else's work than to start something fresh.

charismah 12-31-2010 08:21 AM

I cost me a couple hundred rands, which is nothing if i think how much the fabric cost me and my time to have finished it. I had already done all the blocks and a couple of the long row, but when the triangles did not match, i gave up  . I was extremely excited when she saw the quilt sections and said, "No problems, they can finish it" It was A HUGE RELIEF :-P

We have a saying here that the quilt will look just fine from a galloping horse! Well, I slowed my pony to a walk and your quilt looks great. So happy you got it finished and are able to enjoy it. It is truly beautiful.
