Today my DH and I took an injured bird to our Wild Life Vet to be checked out. When we walked in Dr. was coming out of the dispensary with 2 bottles of milk in her hand and a towel. She handed them to me and asked if I'd feed the baby racoon while she checked out the injured bird. My DH took the attached pictures. Dr. also had several raptors in hospital with broken wings, injured legs and one of these is a Falcon with a broken wing. Dr. was going to remove the pins in the bird's wing this afternoon so it won't be long he'll be soaring above the clouds ...we hope!!
The racoon likes to lay on his back, hold the bottles in his little hands and when he gets tired of sucking he just opens his mouth real wide and nudges your hand with his so you sqeeze the milk out of the bottle into his open mouth. It's so cute. When we were done he went to Dr. and tried to bury his head and nose in the sleeve of her shirt while he was settling down on his back in the crook of her arm . That was pretty cute, too. Hungry RockyRacoon |

How wonderful that you rescued the falcon!!! The little baby racoon is adorable!! Was it hard to leave him there? I sure would have wanted to bring the little guy home!!

I was thinking how nice it would be to get so close to the beautiful creatures, but I'd rather they never get hurt!

Awww, how cute. Poor bird, hope doc can save it.

Baby Bird is fine. The cat didn't puncture him with claws or teeth and Dr. thinks she'll keep him for a day or two until he can fly (he's too young to fly right now but is only a day or so away from being able to) then she'll turn him lose. The racoon will be turned lose as soon as he can fend for himself. The Falcon will be set free if his wing is OK, if it isn't he'll be in a habitat at a zoo.

Good news! I wonder how the falcon broke his wing? Human or nature? Either way I'm grateful for that veterinarian and the zoo.

Baby racoon has grown into a big racoon. He's in a habitat with 4 other raccons who were rescued, treated for injuries and are now well. They were released to the wild but chose to hang out in the trees and in the habitat at the clinic. Clinic is very rural so they are safe and happy. Dr. thinks about the time mating season starts they'll all find something else and somewhere else to go.
Baby bird can fly and is in the bird habitat at the clinic and it can fly and be a bird but most of the summer there have been ravens hanging around so Dr. doesn't plan to release the dozen rescued robins, sparrows, etc. until the Raven's head south or north or wherever Ravens go. The Falcon's wing healed but he still favors it and doesn't fly well so Dr. placed him in a Raptor habitat at a local zoo. He's very happy and has room enough to fly if he chooses to. |
How great that they are on the mend. Love it when people take care of our wild friends too!
