I am not sure how to add more than one photo per posting or if you can. Maybe some one can tell me.
This quilt is all hand done and is done in the traditional needle turn applique which has been a real learning experience for me but coming right along.

primitivejan 08-03-2013 07:52 AM

Heheh, I figured it out all by myself. I just wanted to share some of the needle turn applique with is much different than regular applique. There is no pinning but a lot of basting.

Misty's Mom 08-03-2013 08:02 AM

Very, very nice

leatheflea 08-03-2013 08:02 AM

Very pretty! Is this of your own design or a kit?

Quilter 65 08-03-2013 08:05 AM

I am still amazed by the intricacy of this and that it is your first attempt. You've got it going on!

cjackaitlin 08-03-2013 08:19 AM

Hawaiian quilts are so beautiful in single colors. I love yours. Thanks for sharing. Mary.

No this is not a kit. It is a pattern that the President of the Hawaiian quilting quild shared with me. It is a family heirloom that she allowed me to use for my daughters Hawaiian quilt. This quilt is queen size so once I finish with all the needle turn applique then I have to echo quilt the entire quilt. Maybe done by the end of next year as the entire quilt is hand stitched.

It is absolutely gorgeous! I'm amazed at how nicely the batik fabrics are turning, as they can be difficult to hand stitch some times.

grammysharon 08-03-2013 09:41 AM

Your H-A is gorgeous. I am in the middle of quilting one!!!

Cogito 08-03-2013 09:54 AM

That is absolutely beautiful. This is the hardest quilt I have ever tried. I have one started from 1973 when I lived in Hawaii and I probably will never finish it. Your's is awesome.

It is so beautiful!! What patience you must have!
Does your hand/fingers hurt from hand stitching through batik? I did a bit and gave up as it was tough going through batik. What needle did you use?

mary quilting 08-03-2013 04:42 PM

very nice one day I am going to make one

primitivejan 08-03-2013 04:54 PM

Actually the batik is very soft. Great quality, I think it was either Kaufman or Moda I don't recall. I am using a 10 betweens to do the needle turn. My fingers don't hurt my by hands ache as I have had surgery on both to fuse the bones in the back of my hand and remove a bone from under my thumb on both hands. I only work on it for about an hour then I take a break. I almost have this area completed then I will undo the side to finish the last area. I am going to add a border of the same fabric. There was a continuous pattern on the original design but I chose not to use that and do a small 2 1/2 inch border. That is my daughter request.

primitivejan 08-03-2013 04:56 PM

I do believe by the time I finish this that there is going to be many many hours.

Scraplady 08-03-2013 05:04 PM

It is going to be absolutely beautiful. You are doing a wonderful job, I know I need to try the needle turn method but I'm either too scarred or too lazy!
