I've finally moved into my own little quilting shed! It's been quite a journey from start to finish, but well worth it. For any who didn't watch the progress: http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-103882-1.htm

Here are pictures of the finished area. Parts are not too neat, but I'm already working in it! I hung the batting on the wall using garden hose hangers from Lowes that were about $5 and a piece of electrical conduit that I already had. I folded fabric using the ruler method. I really happy with it and already enjoy spending time there!

LOVE the idea of a the hangars and conduit for the batting. My roll is still in the shipping box.
Last statement is most important - that you enjoy spending time there!
Congrats!

I wait until I get a JoAnn 50% off coupon and the roll batting isn't on sale. I've forgotton what I paid, but it seems like it was $150 or so. This is 90" X 30 yds.

I use my 6 X 24 ruler. I lay the fabric out length-wise, still folded in the middle on my cutting board. I line the folded edge up with a line on my cutting board, then place the ruler across it and start folding, keeping the folded edge straight. When finished, fold it over once and it fits on a bookcase shelf just right. Here's a couple pics of me folding.

Looks like fun, doesn't it?

I did this for HOURS! LOL!

I thought about that after we hung it.. and may turn it around. However, I'm looking for a folding room divider that I can cover. I think reaching over that ironing board would be difficult if I had many pieces to hang. As you can see, I'm not the slimest or tallest person, LOL! As it is, I could pull it out over the ironing board and use it that way if I don't find anything soon.

Looks great! I think I have that same fabric you are folding, Northcott Stonehenge? I have a large sewing room but it is so full, there is no way to put my quilting frame in there. Thinking about making a doorway into the bedroom next door for the frame. Guestroom? who needs that?!

blueangel 09-19-2011 11:51 AM

Wow that is nice

brushandthimble 09-19-2011 02:00 PM

Awesome room! Congraulations!

I DO! LOL! That's why we built the shed...so we could have the bedrooms back for when the family comes home. We have three married children and seven grandchildren. And the boys have gotten too big to sleep under the quilting frame! Now I need to spend some time getting those rooms back in shape. I need a futon frame for the office (where my cutting board used to live) and a queen-size bed for the room my long arm was in. We've already turned the walk-in closet (my old sewing area) into a storage area/closet with shelves all around. Our house isn't real large anyway and I felt bad that I couldn't find room to put anyone with all my quilting stuff taking up so much space. My youngest son has already laid claim to the former long arm room for his family. My oldest son and his family live close and can go home to sleep, but occasionally some of them do come up for the night. My daughter and her DH live near Boulder, CO. They don't usually bring all three of their kids at the same time, since two are in college and working. I just needed the space. But....if you don't need a guest room...then cutting a doorway (or double doorway?) might provide you with what you need. Hope you can find a place for your frame.

Brilliant!!! I was impressed with the way you hung your batting brfore but this idea rocks!!! Who couldn't use more than 1 design wall?

Tippy 09-21-2011 08:15 AM

If you're looking for a room divider check at Hobby Lobby.. they usually have a few different ones. And if they are not on sale you can use a 40% off coupon!!
