They are beautiful. I am looking for a tablecloth quilt but without batting as I thought glasses etc would wobble etc on a quilted surface. May need to change my idea.

gsbuffalo 07-25-2013 02:33 AM

wow that is so neat.

Retired Fire Chief 07-25-2013 02:53 AM

Beautiful idea! Hope no one spilled any of the bbq sauce!

christinetindell 07-25-2013 02:57 AM

I just panicked when I saw the bitter of BBQ sauce on the quilt! I think I would have covered them with clear plastic tablecloths!

I made a quilt for my oblong table and I use it when I am having company. I works as a hot pad too. It is maroon so it is dark and doesn't show stains. I use my quilts that I keep and just wash them up. I don't always use soap so I guess a lot of times I am just rinsing them. I throw them in the dryer and that is that. So far they have held up. I think I made my first small quilt in 2000 and it covers a footstool and gets washed a lot. It is a little faded but otherwise it is okay. I like to make things and use them and I hope my quilts I give away are used also.

So I loved seeing those quilts on the tables. It looked really festive.

What a fantastic idea. Love it.

gabeway 07-25-2013 04:31 AM

Nicely done.

Annieflower 07-25-2013 04:59 AM

How festive, surprising, and absolutely gorgeous!!!

Barbgil 07-25-2013 05:15 AM

Wonderful warm and friendly look.:)

Nanny's dollface 07-25-2013 05:27 AM

This is great idea! So summery and festive! The quilts are beautiful on display. So often we have quilts folded up just waiting to be used, touched, and caressed. Thanks for sharing .

BeckyL 07-25-2013 05:29 AM

I use quilts on my table daily. If a spill happens, I throw them in the wash using Oxi-Clean in with the detergent and they have always come out just fine. I even used them on the table at our community fall bar-b-que. I love the look .

BeckyL 07-25-2013 05:30 AM

P. S. I also keep quilts on my front porch on the swing nearly year round. I make them to use and enjoy.

iamangel 07-25-2013 05:37 AM

Wonderful quilts. They really do look very nice as tablecloths.

mjmachin 07-25-2013 06:05 AM

What is the saying...... if you never use something there will be no memories attached to it to pass on...or something like that!! It would be a shame if a stain would not come out of a quilt, but the memories of that BBQ or any other event are priceless. Just a thought. I think it was grand of you to use your quilts and I am sure there were many great memories of that day taken home with everyone who attended. By the way, your quilts are beautiful!!!

I also use my themed quilts for holidays. The Christmas quilt just sets off the magic of Christmas. Just removed my patriotic quilt from the table. Makes for a festive occasion. Love the look that you had at the barbecue. Great idea!

So pretty. I often did this when I had only adults. U Know why? well, I find adults spill, too. Now I make the table special to entice the children to question. But I know how to wash a quilt. Thanks. Linda in Bastrop

QuiltnNan 07-25-2013 06:28 AM

looks great having those quilts on the tables

cpcarolyn 07-25-2013 06:30 AM

Great idea.

Geri B 07-25-2013 06:39 AM

Ok you all have convinced me to get those extra quilts out of their pillowcases and use them on the dining room table BUT....I still have to put a clear plastic over them.....not that brave yet!

Grace MooreLinker 07-25-2013 06:45 AM

Looks very pretty, good idea, I'm sure everyone thought so.

cherrio 07-25-2013 08:01 AM

I agree 110%. I want to see them used and that's why I too keep a bottle of Shout on hand.

I have used them on my table for years.....all seasons and prints. I have five grandchildren around a lot (4 which are toddlers from 9 mo to 4 yrs old) and the families eat here a lot. Don't worry about spills or stains cause they wash up beautifully. If something gets spilled that might stain, I just spray with spray and wash and throw it in machine. They look good as new when washed. If you make them, use them. I tell everyone I make quilts, etc for that they were made to use and not be afraid of washing them regularly.

What a great idea! The look lovely. Which one is Martha? Or did you not include the birthday girl?

pollyjvan9 07-25-2013 10:21 AM

I have used my quilts as tablecloths but I cover them with a piece of clear plastic before setting the table. That way I don't have to worry about spills. Your yard looks lovely and the tables are beautiful, I know your friend had a great time.

KathyPhillips 07-25-2013 11:19 AM

I would have to use clear plastic, too. I would not want BarBQ sauce on my quilts. Yours look wonderful!

needles3thread 07-25-2013 11:28 AM

Just use a clear plastic sheet over them. My dining room table looks so pretty with a solid red and white one - otherwise stored away.

mjhaess 07-25-2013 12:00 PM

That is very unique....Love your idea..

judi wess 07-25-2013 12:28 PM

That looks so inviting, hope you had not stains to remove.

running1 07-25-2013 12:28 PM

Love it... makes me want to have a party!!

KalamaQuilts 07-25-2013 12:38 PM

beautiful lady, beautiful and practical use for quilts, well done.

sewbizgirl 07-25-2013 01:22 PM

The quilts look great but I'd never be able to let people eat barbecue on my white quilts! Or any color... Not without clear vinyl over them.

Phillyquilter 07-25-2013 03:07 PM

I love the pictures, the quilts look lovely...then I see a bottle of BBQ sauce on the table and I think of my family and the potential and probable spills. I'm sure it was a wonderful and uneventful"spill day"

red-warrior 07-25-2013 03:59 PM

What a beautiful tribute! I love your quilts!

Clara is sitting at the table with my husband :) Martha I think is a reference to the domestic goddess Miss Martha Stewart :)

Pepita 07-25-2013 08:05 PM

I've used quilts on tables and then put the clear vinyl on the top. I was confident that the quilts wouldn't be damaged, as were those enjoying the meal.

Wonnie 07-26-2013 04:53 AM

How cheerful and inviting! Good for you! I make things to be used not stashed away in acid free tissue. There are so many products out there now-a-days for stain removal that are really good. My first plan of attack is always good ol' hydrogen peroxide.

adambruoso 07-26-2013 05:34 AM

I have sprayed my cross-stitch Christmas cloths with Scotch-Guard for years and wash them soon after the meal is completed and have had no stains set in. I imagine it could be used on quilts as well. I made a quilted tablecloth for my mother and it has survived years of washing.

gramquilter2 07-26-2013 05:51 AM

Beautiful setting. I use quilts on my dining table all of the time. I imagine if anything gets spilled you can get the stains out just as you do on anything else.

marymm 07-26-2013 06:05 AM

Beautiful! I'm like so many others...would have had to put plastic on top in case of spills! Love the setting!

fangman 07-26-2013 06:26 AM

It makes it look so cozy.

jbj137 07-26-2013 08:29 AM

I love the look.
