Using up stash, making some bed-runners

Here are two bedrunners I've made recently.
One, I call "Coconut Cream Pie." My husband called it the Tan Rainbow. I had a drawer full of just white, ivory, and tan fabrics left over from bigger projects. So I auditioned the fabrics until I had a nice blend of seven fabrics ranging from light to dark. In the photo, I have placed it on an orange lap quilt just for contrast - otherwise it would have been harder to see against the beige carpet. Contemporary looking.

The second, I call "Brooke's Star" I picked out two complimentary blocks from two different sources and made this runner. I've had the blue floral sashing fabric (a little less than 1/2 yard)for a few years, so finally put all of it to good use. The light blue fabric was a FQ, and I used up all of that too. I like how it looks classic, yet fresh.

I especially love the blue runner!!! So very ice. My stash is getting huge, so I need to start using up.

You just lay them across the foot of a bed or even over the pillows for decoration against a simple bedspread. Or these can be used as table runners too.

Both items are very nice. Love the blue runner and find the tan runner delightful.

quiltinggirl 12-28-2011 05:30 AM

Very pretty bedrunners! Isn't it funny how they are all the rage now? I don't know where the idea originated but I love them!

Rock Lady 12-28-2011 07:18 AM

Both are beautiful. The tan runner is quite unique.

Mona Marie 12-28-2011 07:29 AM

I like the top one. How did you do it? Please PM me with the instructions.

Poakie 12-28-2011 08:01 AM

Very nice! Love the tan one.

thimblebug6000 12-28-2011 08:46 AM

They're both beautiful, but find the tan one intriguing. Not sure I'd make one, but would enjoy hearing how you plan it out.

I love coconut cream pie and to see it in your bed runner, makes it just wonderful. A great job. I think I have that pattern somewhere, and would love to do it like yours.

Thank you for asking. I didn't know what they were either but they are beautiful.

sewnbug 12-30-2011 05:52 AM

Very nice.

gypsylady5 12-30-2011 06:25 AM

You know, that might be a good way to use the orphan swap blocks I've accumulated. Great stars. Love the colors. Good job, my quilting friend.

Para722 12-30-2011 06:49 AM

I love making bed runners as they are a great way to quick change a room. I make the winter ones with thick batting and the summer ones with thin batting.

Mariposa 12-30-2011 06:51 AM

Both are lovely!!

Rettie V. Grama 12-30-2011 08:22 AM

Very nice. I am doing the same thing plus making some quilts. Plan to sell some.

petlover 12-30-2011 08:48 AM

Beautiful! The Coconut Cream Pie is a unique design. I love the blue also. You could use these for table runners if you have a long table.

irishrose 12-30-2011 09:14 AM

They are both very pretty though the tan one is my favorite. Very interesting pattern.

New Kris 12-30-2011 06:13 PM

Judith1005 12-30-2011 06:23 PM

Lovey. I like the blue stars the best, but then the brown one is modern and different. Different strokes for diffrent folks. Keep up the good work.
