LOL...No it wasn't, but funny you should bring up AA. I started quilting many years ago while trying to dry out after a bitter divorce. Yep, I'm recovered...never been to a meeting, but no longer drink till I pass out. I have the occasional irish coffee. Most of the time the Baileys spoils before I can drink the bottle. You know they say alcoholics will generally trade one bad habit for another, mine was fabric!

I'm in Martinsville, IN right now! Want to talk? PM me and we can exchange information. I no longer live here, however, will be here about a week.

quiltingcurious 12-28-2012 02:40 PM

If laying a quilt aside for 2 years would produce a beauty like this, it's time to start turning them loose! Very, very nice work!

Carol34446 12-28-2012 03:37 PM

Went and read your story, you sure should write, maybe you could turn that into a parttime job. There is a lady who writes books that are quilting based, and they sound like they should be really good.

Jeannette51 12-28-2012 04:45 PM

Green with envy, wish I had your talent!!! I do much simpler quilt patterns and keep saying I am going to do something more complicated soon. Maybe 2013 will be the year for me. So much inspiration on QB. If I am ever going to have something this beautiful, I just better jump in feet first and start cutting and sewing. I just love this quilt.

cowgirlquilter 12-28-2012 04:51 PM

I think Karen Mctavish says it best "Quilt out of your comfort zone, you won't be disappointed!" I'm by no means an advanced quilter but I strive to be. Its all about where you devote your energy. Someday before I die I'd like to get just one quilt in a big show. Its baby steps, I hope you find it within yourself to take a step outside your comfort zone in 2013, good luck and thank you for inspiring me!

A writer I'm not, sometimes life just gives you a good story. My dad tells some of the best, maybe its an inherited trait. Glad you enjoyed my sewing adventure.

pumpkinpatchquilter 12-28-2012 08:31 PM

It's a beautiful quilt. Congrats!

Trish 12-29-2012 08:47 AM

Is there a pattern for your star quilt? Thanks...Trish

JoanneS 12-29-2012 09:50 AM

Whoop, whoop! Loved your story, because I've been there. that's why I don't cut the whole quilt out at once any more! i hear my husband's voice in my head,'Measure twice; cut once.' I still take as much of my machine apart as I can, and it's usually a teensy, weensy bit of thread hiding in the most improbable place - or the top thread caught under the spool or in the notch.

Your quilt is beautiful. Has the look of a beloved antique.

Scrap41 12-29-2012 10:09 AM

This is beautiful and it was worth the wait. Is there a name/pattern for it?

leatheflea 12-29-2012 12:17 PM

To all that asked there is no pattern. It started out as something else and I was inspired by grannies stars in fons and porters 2009 june issue I think. So I had to get out pen and paper and do some math because I didn't have the pattern just a picture of the quilt. You can find my inspiration on my blog that I'm not allowed to post here on the board. I might get in trouble for even mentioning that I have a blog. The rules here keep me guessing. So if I just made another boo-boo Im sorry in advance. I like to call this quilt my Variation of a variation, variation quilt.
