Vintage Quilt Restored and Quilted
5 Attachment(s)
I finished restoring and quilting the Dresden Plate quilt top that was found in the attic of the house that we purchased from an estate in 1994. Here are the pics of the quilt w/the repairs done and quilted w/a ribbon meander. I was lucky enough to find a green thread that matched perfectly. Found a suitable fabric for binding. Just a heads up on the repairs, there were many great suggestions about how to fix the holes in the quilt. I went w/cutting the corners off. Within 5 minutes of doing that, I had a head slapping "DUH" moment. I was ironing the back and noticed all of the fabric behind the plates that would have been perfect for the repairs and I wouldn't have lost the corners.

Nice job. I really like the way you labeled it with the picture of the house and all the info. I'm not an expert on fabric dating but some of those look like feedsacks. Do you have any idea how old it is?

I really like what you did to restore this quilt. I have an old top from my grand-mother-in-law that I will soon be working on. I was told to put as much info on the quilt label as possible. I like what you did with your label and think I will find a picture of her to put on it with all her info. I really like your "found" quilt! Great job!!

Nice restoration - any idea how old the quilt is?

Super job on the repairs and keeping the info on the quilt.

I have no idea how old the quilt top is. I've had it since 1994. Marcella had been dead for several years by the time that we bought her house. The top was found in the attic under the blown-in cellulose insulation. She had been in a wheel chair for several years before her death. Some fabrics look like remnants of clothing.

No worries about a belated "ah ha moment". I like what you did with the corners. And your quilt label is wonderful. Great way to record the history of this quilt.

First love what you've done with it. Looks gorgeous! For security's sake though, I would cover your label before posting it again. I think it's great how you've worded the label but should be private. So if you post on any other social media, I would delete the photo and you can repost another with your private information covered. Just a courtesy security suggestion. You just never know who's looking.

turned out great. i like the cut corners

You did a wonderful job repairing the quilt. I like the corners or the lack thereof.
Nice find, fabulous restoration!

You did a great job with the restoration. I would have crosshatch the background since that is the traditional way they did things back in those days. REally nice to put the history down on your quilt label.
What a wonderful treasure you have brought back to life.
You did a great job on the restoring, and I love the label with all the info and picture.
You have just created an ultimate heirloom quilt!
What a lovely find! You did a great job quilting the quilt!!
Looks great! I think those diagonal corners add to the quilt.
Wonderful treasure! I can never bring myself to machine quilt those old quilt tops, but you did a lovely job. Congratulations!
Truly beautiful. You are fortunate to have found such a treasure and applied the finishing touches with care. ;-)
A lovely finish! :)

Doesn't look like you have lost anything by removing the corners. You did a super job. I love it. BrendaK

That is a beautiful old quilt. I too like what you did with the corners. It makes it unique. I too love the label. The more information given, the better.
Love the quilt and the quilting. I have never seen the ribbon meander before but think it is perfect for this quilt.
a very nice restoration!

It turned out so very, very well!! We have an old Dresden Plate quilt top found in my cousin's cedar chest when she passed. Some of the fabrics match the ones in Mom's double wedding ring quilt that G'ma made for her, so we speculate that G'ma made this too, but didn't get done before she was too seriously ill to finish. I like the double ribbon meander quilting on this - makes me inspired to finish the one we have for my daughter.
Great finish even with the corners cut off. You can be very proud of your work and I too really like the label with the picture.
Wow, you did a beautiful job! As I have heard many ladies on the Board say, "no quilt police" - ha ha! What a great opportunity to restore a quilt too! It makes it more fun since it was found in the house - and I too love the label with the house included. Reminds me to restore a quilt I bought at an flea market. It's sad that no labels or history are found on some of the old quilts like the one you found in the house and the one I bought - but nice that caring quilters restore them.

Great quilt and great save. Take care of yourself and be safe.

...great job of bringing that quilt back to life.....the piecer is certainly smiling at you.......oh, and I love the fretwork showing behind the quilt( upper right side)..... I miss my old farm house..old houses have so many stories to tell, but you have to really listen....

Actually, until I read your post, I thought the corners were supposed to be that way and that it was quite clever. Still do, as it makes the quilt different. Restoration looks excellent and the label tells the story. Just perfect!
beautiful work. I love how you added the label with all the information on it. So vital for future quilt owners.
Way to go!! It's a beauty!
Wow that is wonderful. Something to treasure. Happy quilting. 😍
Beautiful! It must be a great feeling to restore a quilt. I have a couple that need to be given a new life.

Amazing ! Not sure if this will help, but the red, white and blue plaid is very familiar! My Mother made a dress for me with this same material when I was five years old; remember it clearly and have a photo of it; I am now 72 years old. I remember so many of the things my Mother made for me!
