Wallhanging Takakkaw Falls ver.2

1 Attachment(s)
The original ver.1, went to Australia. This one was 8 days of steady focus. (I keep telling my friends I have no life!) It is, to date, the largest piece I have attempted 24"x36". It's surprisingly tiring, but oh, so satisfying work. All that remains to be done now is the border and binding. Now I can get back to some relaxing and not quite so intense UFO Quilts. Thanks for letting me crow! Enjoy!!

Congratulations on another amazing piece!!
With something so fantastic, you certainly can go and crow about it .... and preen a little too!!! :D
......... and even enhoy a nice glass of wine (OK, the whole bottle!!)

(I saw the title and knew it had to be you, MaryK!)

You're welcome! and it's all well deserved.
All's well ... lost power for 24 hrs sat/Sun and then again for a bunch on the Monday before Christmas.
Lots of trees down in my bush, but parts of all over my yard and the fringes. I am lucky, compared to some.
Still watching as much of the ice has not melted, then the snow storm on top has been hard on the poor trees. The meltdown this weekend (IF it happens) will be good for the trees, so they can get free of the ice ... At least I am hoping that!

How about you?

QuiltnNan 01-10-2014 03:29 PM

beautifully done... looks like very difficult work

MaryKatherine 01-10-2014 03:34 PM

We sailed through the ice storm. We lost power for 6 hours but we have a gas fireplace and storm. So it was just ROMANTIC.. Ed still cringes when I say lets turn out the lights.
I'd like this January thaw to take it ALL away.
But I won't get that wish.
Stay warm and healthy.

Absolutely stunning. Gorgeous. You did a terrific job.

MaryKatherine 01-10-2014 03:36 PM

No its not difficult per se, just very time consuming. I use about 10 different green landscape materials and layer and intersperse them to give the feeling of depth and vibrancy. And I LOVE stitching trees.
Thanks for looking.

Oh you two cuddlebugs are just SO romantic!
..... you might et your wish if we get this meltdown they are talking about for this weekend. :)

BTW ... are all those needles on those tall spruce trees, stitched by you? Beyond belief!
How about some close up pics? :)

I tried to post some detail pics but the resolution is already so high they don't add anything.
You'll have to come over and SEE the piece. I'll have it till next weekend.

I was going to ask how you put those tiny needles on that tree. This is an amazing scene, it doesn't even look like fabric in the pic.

alikat110 01-10-2014 08:00 PM

wow
I mean....WOW!!!

That just might be do-able!
.......... of course, only if we can get our schedules to coincide! :)

Ladies ... don't you wish you were a little closer and could do the same? ;)

dunster 01-11-2014 04:56 AM

Amazing! Those greens are so vibrant, stitching so detailed.

bjchad 01-11-2014 05:23 AM

Smg1678 01-11-2014 10:22 AM

That is absolutely beautiful.....oh my gosh, I would love to learn how to make a project like this......you must be so proud of your accomplishment.

RedGarnet222 01-11-2014 10:30 AM

Such talent and diligence is beyond my scope of abilities, that is for sure! I just love your wall
hanging. I could stare at it for hours.

feline fanatic 01-11-2014 02:14 PM

Breathtaking. Makes me want to go there. Reminds me of Yosemite.

peaceandjoy 01-11-2014 02:50 PM

That is absolutely fantastic. Someday I'd like to try a landscape/seascape hanging. Yours is certainly inspiring!

DebbE 01-11-2014 02:55 PM

Oh my - that is the most beautiful landscape quilt I've seen.....I am in absolute awe at your ability to put so much detail into the quilt. The perspective, the various colors, textures and threadwork are just amazing....

DogHouseMom 01-11-2014 04:26 PM

Outstanding! I remember the first one as well. Both are fantastic.

I ditto QuiltE ... would LOVE to see close ups if you can find a way to get them. Sometimes it's easier to take the pic from further back and use the zoom lens, then once it's on the PC zoom in even more.

needles3thread 01-11-2014 05:47 PM

MaryKatherine, it is just great.
