Yesterday I was trying to make a clothesline purse. Well, it was so wonky that it is now a basket!

I'll try again now that I know what I'm doing.

Quilt4u 10-15-2009 09:40 AM

I like it.

joeyoz 10-15-2009 09:41 AM

I love your wonky basket!!! :D :D :D

Ninnie 10-15-2009 09:41 AM

Great basket!!

Jim's Gem 10-15-2009 09:42 AM

Cute wonky basket!!!

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 10-15-2009 09:44 AM

How big is it? It looks like the perfect carry basket for some little girl's baby doll.

sewnsewer2 10-15-2009 09:45 AM

Thanks, but I don't like the multi look. I plan to use it as a waste basket for when I need one while watching TV and cutting stuff in the LR.

I used 100 feet of line. I'm going to get more line today and try again.

jamh 10-15-2009 09:51 AM

I don't know, but I think a small baby doll will fit.

sandpat 10-15-2009 02:59 PM

I think its kinda wonky cute!

Chele 10-15-2009 03:12 PM

Man, I think that's way cool! I might have to copy. I've made a little rag bowl, but yours is so neat.

Maribeth 10-15-2009 03:34 PM

I think it's cute.

RedGarnet222 10-15-2009 04:59 PM

Uh oh .... I bought that pattern too. Is there some secret to getting it non-wonky? Please share your tips, sewnsewer. Pretty please. I thought it would be harder than whet the directions said. It has to be turned and sewn almost straight up as you get to the sides. How do you see what you are doing once you get to that point? I have put it off thinking that looks too hard.

Please give a gal a hand with your tips!

ladybugquilter 10-15-2009 05:01 PM

cute

littlehud 10-15-2009 05:48 PM

I think it's cool. I got some clothes line at the quilt show I went to a while back. I've been afraid to try it. Do you have any pointers for me?

tuesy 10-15-2009 05:57 PM

I like it!!! It'd make a great rag bowl!!! Now if you don't like it so much, you just send it over to me!! I'll find a use for it.. :D

I didn't buy the pattern a friend showed me how to make it. After you get the bottom width you want, you have to pull the wrapped cord tight to get it to start curling up to form the basket. I do tht for several rows and push the cords together to make sure there isn't a gap between the rows.

I'm making another one now and it is turning out soooo much better! I think because I am making it smaller (hopefully a purse this time  )

I really don't have any tips as this is only my 2nd one.

The only pointer besides what I answered to RedGarnet is to start small for a practice.

Marcia 10-15-2009 06:38 PM

not funny looking---really neat

gaigai 10-16-2009 01:29 AM

Oooo, I love baskets, and that one is beautiful! I definitely have those on my bucket list!! (Sighing over how long that list is getting) :P

tlrnhi 10-16-2009 03:15 AM

Looks good to me! Basket or purse. No one has to know!

reneebobby 10-16-2009 03:35 AM

Cool looks good to me.

Stitching4Fun 10-16-2009 04:19 AM

I like your rag purse/basket. May I suggest something? For a purse, would't it lay/close better if the handles were on the longer side? Closing it on the ends like you have them now would make the bottom curl when it is closed, wouldn't it? Just a suggestion.

I have been going to try this technique when I saw it posted on here. I haven't found the cotton clothes line yet. I know I can get the piping at Joann fabrics, but with everything else on my list, I haven't gotten any yet. But it is on my list!!

Good luck on the one you are working on now...............post pictures when done.

Very nice , I have made several wonky baskets , but they turned out to be so handy. :D

lazefishing 10-17-2009 05:50 PM

The best way to learn how to use hand positioning is start small.
I have been making them for 2 yrs and it is very additive.I start with a 7 or 8 inch base line and make an oval about 5 to 6 inches wide and directly go to as far up as u can and keep rotating.
I make coaster, placemats, purses ,coin bowls and regular bowls. I use 2yds of line for coasters and 3yds for coin bowls. Nice way to use small pieces of leftover line.

crkathleen 10-17-2009 06:46 PM

That's so cute! Love the colors!

Janis 10-17-2009 06:58 PM

If you do hand piecing, or any other hand work, it could hold your tools by your favorite chair. I like it. :)

Deecee 10-17-2009 07:22 PM

I love the basket, but I really love the thread spool fabric in the first pic.

Oh thanks for the ideas! I have some left. I was thinking hot pads too to set hot dishes on. :-)

wvdek 10-17-2009 09:35 PM

Wonky or not, I like it. Would make a great basket to hold snippets or scraps for your next scrappy, or the tools idea was good.
I think I will have to put this on my to do list. It is getting much longer since being on this board. Imagine that!

earthwalker 10-18-2009 12:14 AM

I like it....very useful...our cats would instantly claim it....It's a fight round here to keep fur people out of baskets, bags...or anything remotely cat sized and cozy!

sawsan 10-18-2009 01:49 AM

I love your wonky basket great job
