Watching in the Moonlight - Art Quilt

2 Attachment(s)
This was one of those pieces inspired by the material. I painted it and constructed it earlier this winter. I only added the crow at the last minute. It felt lifeless and empty for the 2 weeks it hung on my wall. Some may find it moody, but to me it has life and tells a story. Enjoy 32x40 in.

I like it. How did you make the skinny tree branches? Is it couching? Very nice detail & it looks so real.

Jordan 03-13-2017 07:56 AM

I think your wall hanging is great and the crow does definitely add to the piece.

paintmejudy 03-13-2017 07:59 AM

Love your wall hanging, fantastic branches!

Tartan 03-13-2017 08:02 AM

Looks great!

The branches are twisted cord and wool. Some times I machine stitch using netting to capture the material but there was so much here, this time I hand stitched.

Oh my! It is almost as if you were looking out my window last night. Except there were three crows in my tree. Beautiful, very dramatic and perfect in every detail!

Love it! I am an avid crow-watcher, they are one of the most interesting birds out there. They are so family-oriented.

dove1615 03-15-2017 07:05 AM

Very nice art quilt. I see "The Man in the Moon".

feline fanatic 03-15-2017 12:36 PM

I really liked this when you posted just the hand painted fabric with the moon but now that you are showing the whole thing, I can see why you wanted to continue on with your original plan. You had mentioned only the tree branches on your original post. The crow is just the right touch.

Now off to your blog to see if you described how you did those branches. Looks almost like some couching involved.

mscoco07 03-15-2017 06:28 PM

Beautiful, reflective and a little haunting. I love it.

joyce888 03-16-2017 03:08 PM
