I made this quilt in a class several years ago. I designed the picture myself and I wanted the basket handle and bottom corners of the basket to be curved, but the teacher said I couldn't use HST, I had to use just squares. Well, when I got home, I made HST and used them in the handle and basket and learned a good lesson that has served me well in teaching. There are NO rules!! When I teach, I will make suggestions, teach techniques, and help with any problems, but as far as fabric choices and design, I tell my students " It's YOUR quilt, you can do what you want!!!" LOL

Boy,is that beautiful! is that what is referred to as "watercolors"?
I love your quilt. Watecolor quilts are my favorite to do too! I think your soft edged basket is beautiful & what a valuable lesson you learned for your future students! BEAUTIFUL :D
That really is beautiful!
Love it.
That's gorgeous. I love the watercolor method. Glad you didn't listen to the teacher. I think the few HST's make it really stand out.
I really love the watercolor quilts. I have had it in the back of my mind to make one for some time now.
Yours is really beautiful. I am glad you made it the wa you wanted to. After all she can't tell you not to use creativity. How odd! |
Love it.
oh wow. that is gorgeous!!!!
That is so pretty. I love it. It is always so much more satisfying when you do what you want to do. Makes your quilt "yours". Wonderful job!
beautiful!!! I want to try one of these someday!
Beautiful.
I have no idea why she'd tell you something like that. It works perfectly. I'd be so tempted to display it in front of her and give her a raspberry "pfffffft."
Good for you Pamela for going with your instincts and not taking NO for an answer. Your quilt is beautiful and the handle and basket bottom would not look the same if you hadn't used HST's.
How many patterns and techniques would not be known if it weren't for quilters experimenting and breaking the "rules".   |
Rules are made to be broken and you did it extremely well
Looks great!
O MY I LOVE THIS.. I totally agree on the teaching aspect! That will make you such a BETTER teacher!
Gorgeous!!! Never tried anything like that, but paint in watercolors, and know that sometimes they take on a life of their own.
Whatever rules you went by......the results are FABULOUS!! |
It is just stunning! I can see now why you teach. Your work is beautiful. Lucky students.
Good for you. Too many rules in life we don't need them in quilting.

Absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!
I have been wanting to do something with watercolors, but it will be awhile. Right now, I am trying to get some quilts done. How did you choose the fabrics for it? That is something I would like to know about when you have a minute. You can send me a pm telling me how to go about it. I will probably make a smaller piece, since I have not ever worked with watercolor. Marta |
You mentioned stack and whack. Would you share with me how to do that technique? A friend made one,and I helped her hand quilt it. Wanted to see it upon completion, but time got away and I didn't get to her house before it was sent to her sister.
Love the look of it! Marta Just a pm is fine. |
Wow, I love your quilt and thanks for being creative!
Absolutely Gorgeous !!! There are no rules in quilting and no quilting police, you have proven you can make a quilt any way you want. Good for you !!!
