Watermelon Quilt

1 Attachment(s)
I have something of a stash. I need to get through it. So, I decided to use up as much as I could... Here's the result! The availability of batiks inspired me to focus on colour more than on blocks, resulting in the Watermelon quilt (hand pieced and quilted). It contains over 200 different fabrics (all cotton), including a piece of a dress I made when I was a teenager and a piece from the little pair of pants I made my son when he was a baby (the watermelon fabric in the corner). I hope you enjoy the riot of colour. Notice also the quilting, especially on the black border. That was so much fun!

Just lovely. I can't image that my stash would look like that. Maybe it's the talent you have. You did a great job. How large are the blocks? BrendaK

I wondered about the cute name. It is beautiful and it contains memories, the two best qualities in a quilt.

That border quilting is beautiful. I couldn't see the other in the center. Hand sewn. I am so impressed.

Striking! I like how you sprinkled the triangle shapes across the quilt top.

This is really nice. I like how you envision the entire composition! The watermelon adds a whimisical touch.
One day, when I have enough variety of scraps, I will attempt this.

The blocks are 3" squares. Easy to cut and to piece.

I'm so pleased that you noticed the triangles. Initially, the quilt's name was "Hidden Stars" because those triangles are actually the points on 10 stars that sort of blend in. None of the stars is complete because they're "hidden".
