I have been working on these keliscope looking grandmother fans for a while now and almost have enough done for a quilt. Only thing is, I can't decide which way they should go. So, you tell me.... Which way should they go???

KK 10-03-2010 04:32 PM

I like the last one best - pretty colors !!!

donnajean 10-03-2010 04:33 PM

I vote for 3rd layout.

ibeesewin 10-03-2010 04:33 PM

I like the last one as well. This is going to be georgeous when finished. It looks so victorian.
Lynn

Qbee 10-03-2010 04:33 PM

Wow! they are so pretty! I think the circles but I'm not sure??? I'm really new so I'd wait and see what the experienced folks say...LOL. :D

sewTinker 10-03-2010 04:33 PM

maybe each row could be laid out in each of the designs? I think that would pretty and would show off the fans, and your beautiful work. They are just lovely.

erstan947 10-03-2010 04:33 PM

How about a combination of all 3. Like 4 circles in the middle. A row of the 1st photo all around them then l fan block in the 4 corners. I love fans, fan quilts and Your fans are FANtastic!

Donna - Batiks 10-03-2010 04:34 PM

Are the squares all different? I like the second one and then I noticed they are not all the same. Then I kind of liked the third one because it shows off all the differences in the patterns.
Do not like the first one because it doesn't match up and it draws my eye to that instead of your beautiful blocks.

sueisallaboutquilts 10-03-2010 04:36 PM

I am no help b/c I absolutely love all 3 !!! :D
But the poster who said the 1st ones don't match is right.
I didn't notice at first.

Sadiemae 10-03-2010 04:38 PM

My favorite is the third, but they will be beautiful whatever you choose.

shequilts 10-03-2010 04:39 PM

The circles would make a magnificent quilt. Lots of room for lavish quilting. It would then be a pleasant surprise to see that they were all made up of fans.

LindaM 10-03-2010 04:40 PM

I like the third layout the best - seems to show off the details of the squares so very well!

Magdalena 10-03-2010 04:43 PM

They are all beautiful, but I like the second one too.

Dragonfly Nana 10-03-2010 04:45 PM

I like 3 best...I think it highlights the uniqueness of each fan better than the other two layouts

#1piecemaker 10-03-2010 04:49 PM

My DH says the circles. But, I thought that made it look more like the Dresden Plate. I love Dresden plates though. I kinda like the idea of the round ones in the middle and the curleyques around the outside for a border. I also thought of putting a plain block inbetween the fan blocks but vetoed that idea. Too much plain fabric. More input please!!

M.E.H. 10-03-2010 04:50 PM

I am going to vote for #3.

amma 10-03-2010 04:52 PM

I like the circles, you get a spiral effect that is awesome! Nice piecing :D:D:D

Yes, they are all pretty much different. I did the stack and whack method but only six layers. Some of them resemble the others. They are all out of the same fabric.

Quiltforme 10-03-2010 04:54 PM

I am a #3 fan Love the victorian feel!

sumcoop 10-03-2010 04:56 PM

I like 2 and 3...beautiful!!!

Scissor Queen 10-03-2010 05:02 PM

You can also do a sort of medallion lay out too. Put four blocks so they make the circle in the center and then lay the others out so they make half circles on each side and then maybe do the serpentine layout with the next rows. There are almost as many ways to set fan blocks as there are to set log cabin blocks.

tcnmom 10-03-2010 05:09 PM

I like #3 for the quilt and #1 for the border.

earthwalker 10-03-2010 05:12 PM

I'm a fan...(uh oh...bit early in the morning for puns!!) of number 3.

hperttula123 10-03-2010 05:24 PM

I like the 3rd pic the best.

sidmona 10-03-2010 05:24 PM

I vote for the third layout.

Tippy 10-03-2010 05:28 PM

OK.. here's an additional alternative.. do the 3rd layout but turn each row so they "fan" the opposite direction. I made a fan years ago and found that to be a eyecatching layout.

raedar63 10-03-2010 05:35 PM

I like the first one ,but I tend to be diffrent LOL
Rae

kwiltkrazy 10-03-2010 05:43 PM

I really like the serpentine, but any way you go, it will be beautiful. The original material must have been beautiful.

KathyAire 10-03-2010 05:50 PM

I like the first and second. Not too crazy about the third. Just my opinion.

Fayelh 10-03-2010 06:03 PM

I like the third one.

grammyp 10-03-2010 06:05 PM

I like the fan layout too.

Jim's Gem 10-03-2010 06:08 PM

I like the 3rd idea!

Kitsapquilter 10-03-2010 06:11 PM

At first I liked the circles but then when I studied them all I like the last one best. You see the difference in each fan better! Nice idea. It will be a lovely quilt!

MissM 10-03-2010 06:21 PM

I like the third lay out the best.

Lynneander 10-03-2010 06:32 PM

I'm voting for the third layout, but you did such a wonderful job, I think any design will be lovely.

tolepainter54 10-03-2010 06:35 PM

Beautiful - #3

pattilynn 10-03-2010 06:47 PM

I like the fan one. those are beautiful

AnitaSt 10-03-2010 06:48 PM

I vote for the third layouts...the fans individually. Seems to show off the prints more.

sewingladydi 10-03-2010 06:51 PM

I can't decide either, but they are very pretty

SaraSewing 10-03-2010 07:09 PM

The fan style is my favorite! Wow, that's beautiful!
