I struggled with what pattern to do and settled on the Irish Chain.
I had never made one before, was pretty easy. I think it came out nice! I embroidered the name and date on it. Just too bad it won't make it for the wedding, oh well....I already sent a card with a note saying that the gift will be there later. I hope they like it. The colors that they chose on the websites they registered for (for bedroom items) were browns, tans and creamy colors. I thought this off white and rusty brown would be nice. I still have to make a label for it. Will post that once it's done. The embroidery I did for it. |
Congratulation...!!! its a very nice gift

It is by far perfect. If you look closely you will see the mistakes. Well, not really mistakes, just a few areas where the blocks didn't match up exactly the way they were supposed to. But, I'm happy with it and I'm sure they will be too. I know he will, but not sure about her. Never met her, but was told by his mother she is a nice little girl. She's only 18, just turned 18. Long story about marriage, no, she's not pregnant. lol I'm also making them each a lap quilt in their favorite colors. She like orange and he likes blue. I will also include the book...What Do I Do Now That Mom Is Gone. It's a great book for any girl or boy that moves out for the first time away from mom and dad. There's also a What Do I Do Now That Dad Is Gone. Both books have great recipes and such in them. They show how to boil water, how to sew a button, hammer a nail and things of that sort. Great books! My oldest has one that a friend of ours gave her. She LOVES it! Ok, I just searched Amazon for the book and can't find it. Will have to call Lauren and ask her EXACTLY what the name of the book is and who is the author. UGH! |
Terri es perfecto .... muy bien

I'm sure this has been asked before and I probably asked it, but what pattern is that quilt in your avatar? |
Terri, that is so pretty. They will love snuggling under it!
|
They are going to love it. I just love Irish Chains. One of these days I'll make one.

Great job!!! Very pretty!
|
It's beautiful!
My Mom gave us those books and we didn't really need the Mom one - she did a pretty good job preparing us. The dad one - yep, needed that! |
Your Irish Chain is beautiful Terri! I love Irish Chains - it's my pattern of choice usually. I'll tell ya, we should have picked that instead of the Storm at Sea we're making for a wedding quilt for my friend's daughter! We'd be done by now, instead of just starting!!! LOL
Great job Terri! :D:D:D:D:D |
Very nice job! I like those colors. I'm going to be making a quilt for my daughter in similar colors.
The irish chain is very easy unless you do it in bright purple and white! Ugh, my eyes went nuts. |
Looks great! I'll make sure to invite you to my wedding :P
|
Beautiful! and what a lucky couple........and you got it done on time! Congrats!

Very nice, so when did you start it and how did you quilt it? :D Irish chain is one of my favs :D
|
Terri-I love it. I have always wanted to do an Irish Chain. I love the simplicity of the pattern and the great design it makes. Your fabric colors are great. They are crazy if they don't absolutely LOVE it!!! And lap quilts too? They must be VERY good friends!!
|
OHhh Terri!! perty perty perty!! You did a fantastic job...has baby makin quilt written alllll over it!!!   The book sounds like the perfect newlywed gift too!! You so Rock at this stuff!!
|
The wedding quilt is beautiful and it is a good pattern and color choice. They will love it.
|
Aren't coincidences funny? My son is getting married Aug 8 also, his favorite color is blue and hers is orange.
|
Beautiful!
I did the same thing for my brother except green & cream and I put the embroidery in the middle square. It is a popular wedding gift! |
Thanks all! It really wasn't that hard to make.
Ruth....I started it Friday night and finished it last night. Well, the top that is. I still need to bat and back it. Not sure on the quilting part yet. I'm still contemplating as to whether I should put another border on it to make it just a bit bigger. These 2 have a full size bed (great size for making the grandbabies :)lol ) I called my friend and asked her and she said yes, full size bed and the colors are going to match perfectly. Their bedroom colors are tan and brown. Not really something I'd pick, but I did good, right? And the wedding is still on, so I don't have to UNembroider it. lol The boy is the son of my friend who I met in Hawaii. Her husband was the CO of the submarine we were attached to and she and I just hit it off. This as back in 96. We have stayed really close ever since. They came out for Lauren's wedding and her husband (now a 2 star Admiral and I lovingly call him my other husband lol) came out and was the guest speaker for Bill's commissioning in Dec. They are wonderful people and my girls and their 2 boys and 1 girl actually refer to each other as brothers and sisters. Courtney calls Cecil (the dad) uncle and Bonny (the mom) Auntie. They are just great people and I'd pretty much do anything for them and the feeling is vice versa. :) DA Mayer....is't that funny, same date and same favorite colors? Kinkajou...I'll come to your wedding! Just make sure the invite includes plane tickets if I'm still here in Guam! lol Yes, I'll even make you a quilt if you tell me the colors you like :) Thanks Connie. Yes, it's pretty much done in time, but with really getting it finished and then in the mail, it won't make it to them in time. They have a card and in it a note saying gift is on it's way at a later date. Plus, since they'll probably get mine last, they can ohh and ahh over it without the other gifts getting in the way. lol ;) But thanks all....it was fun to make and I think I will probably make a few more with this pattern. :) |
Oh my gosh Terri, it's gorgeous! You started it one day and finished it the next...omg, wow, you got lots done quick! I better get sewing lol
|
Thanks Barb!
It goes together really easy. The worst part was cutting, but I don't like cutting anyway. lol |
I don't like cutting either lol, did you strip piece it? Strip piecing does make it easier :)

I got smart! I even did the opposite ends on the sewing. Used to start at one end all the time with the strips and they would ALWAYS come out crooked. Saw somewhere, probably here somewhere that I should alternate sewing top, then from the bottom and it wouldn't be crooked. It does the trick!! :) |
Terri- you are the quilting goddess :):):) Beautiful work and what a wonderful blessing to celebrate the couple's wedding vows :):)
|
Oh no. No quilting goddess here! I struggle thru alot of the quilts I make. Some come out REALLY, REALLY good, others, well.....let's just say, they don't go to anyone important. lol
I actually took my time on this, believe it or not. Even tho it only took me a couple days to do it. I do sew for a little bit, then take a break, then go back at it. I'm still struggling with trying to get the landlord out here to fix this a/c, but he's a butthead and only cares about getting his rent. If he's not out here by the middle of the week, I'll make a phone call and then he'll get a call from the people I call and he'll be out within 2 days fixing it. Just hate it when I have to put threats in. |
Terri. love your quilt. Never done an Irish chain - will have to try it. I hope those 18 yo's appreciate all the work that went into it. Am making my grandson a quilt and he has watched me this summer and told him that he better treat it right with all the work I am putting into it. Will post a pix when I get the top done. He says he will, but I am not sure how much a 14 yo will take care of things! It is a large double bed size. He went back to Maryland yesterday after being here 7 1/2 weeks. Miss him already.
|
I'm sure they will. By the way, she is 18, he is 26.
Anyway...he has seen my quilts since he has been trying to snatch the one I made for his mom and dad. lol |
What a wonderful Irish Chain! I love that pattern. Such a classic. You did a great job. I'm sure the happy couple will treasure it forever.
|
Hey, that turned out great. I know they'll love it
|
Thanks Chele.
Thanks Bev. :) |
Ok, what do ya'll suggest with the quilting?
Since it has the embroidery on it, should I just do a simple stitch in the ditch or what? |

Now we just have to figure out the colors. They really like the blue & brown stuff that's out now, but we're afraid that might 'age' quickly out of style. |
