Wedding Quilt --"Sidewalks around the blocks"

1 Attachment(s)
I just finished this top for my youngest daughter's wedding gift. She and her fiance saw the fabrics in my grandson's grad quilt and fell in love with them. I was glad the LQS still had them in stock! It is not truly a "thinking outside the block" because the "blocks" have sidewalks :>. It is not what I had envisioned but several have said it is fine as it is. I hope the kids think so, too.
Right now the border is 5 inches wide. I'm contemplating making it a bit narrower. What do you all think?

DixieDoodle 06-28-2012 05:25 PM

I love, love it, and the wider border looks just right to me.

krafty14 06-28-2012 05:34 PM

I love the quilt!!! My suggestion would be a narrower light border with a darker border on the outside. Just to hold it together. Just my opinion. Ann

pastimesquiltdesign 06-28-2012 05:50 PM

I like a wide dark border (usually 6-8") so the quilter can do something fantastic in it. Peggy

red-warrior 06-28-2012 06:28 PM

Beautiful quilt!

BeckySt 06-28-2012 06:31 PM

I love the quilt, I agree with Peggy about border,

nls 06-28-2012 06:32 PM

Very pretty quilt--agree with the suggestion about a dark outer border.

Helen S 06-28-2012 06:35 PM

I think it's awesome! I like the wide border, but would bind it with the dark rust/brown color to finish it off.

Diane007 06-28-2012 06:39 PM

Yes to the wider border

TrenbeathRanch 06-28-2012 06:48 PM

Beautiful quilt! The border doesn't look out of balance, if that's your concern...it looks great!

lollygagging 06-28-2012 06:53 PM

That's a very pretty top and I would keep the 5" border. It gives the top balance. IMHO, I think the larger blocks need the larger border. Love your fabric choices. Thanks for sharing.

Love your quilt top. Love the colors and the wide border. With that I think a dark outer border would look lovely also.

It is beautiful!

Lissa 06-29-2012 03:11 AM

I think it is a fantastic quilt. I agree that all it needs is a rust/brown binding. Your guilt is very pleasing to my syes...love the colors!

ontheriver 06-29-2012 03:55 AM

It's so beautiful. Border looks great the way it is. Love the pattern.

QuiltnNan 06-29-2012 04:06 AM

i love the 'sidewalks' because they make the rest of the block float on the quilt. it's terrific and the border is fine.

Arleners 06-29-2012 04:35 AM

That is one fine quilt. I'd make the border a little narrower and add a third border to match the first. Just one of my rituals. I like the way that looks, but if you don't then what you have is fine. I would though use the dark fabric as the binding.

catladyquilts 06-29-2012 04:40 AM

that is a great job, I love it

orangeroom 06-29-2012 04:57 AM

I LOVE it! The larger border helps bring out the centers, I think you should leave it like it is, my personal opinion. Beautiful quilt, beautiful wedding gift. It also depends on how big you want the finished quilt size to be, about the borders, I suppose.

lfstamper 06-29-2012 05:32 AM

Gorgeous just the way it is!

GramaLaura 06-29-2012 05:50 AM

silver queen 06-29-2012 07:10 AM

It is a beautiful quilt. I, too, would narrow up the light border and add a dark border to hold the quilt together more.

Rock Lady 06-29-2012 07:35 AM

Fantastic. I do agree with Helen S. regarding the binding.

Quilt Novice 06-29-2012 09:08 AM

YEe, I agree... that's what I'd do, too. This is just a gorgeous quilt any way you cut it! I don't blame your kids for wanting this beautiful fabric in their wedding quilt. I know your DD & DSIL will love & treasure it for years & years to come

cjackaitlin 06-29-2012 11:58 AM

Beautiful quilt, your DD will love it. I also agree, a wider border will finish it off. Thanks for sharing.

WOW I love it the way it is! Great quilt.

joyce888 06-29-2012 03:55 PM

Very pretty, I think the border width is right.

ube quilting 06-29-2012 04:00 PM

It is a fabulous quilt and the border size works well with the size of the quilt. IMHO a narrower border would look scimpy on this stunning work. Excited to see it finished.
peace
