A friend and I went to a quilt shop that she discovered had nice black and whites... then we went to lunch... then to my favorite Mennonite shop. It was a delightful day! Karen bought me 2 yards from one store for a belated b-day gift; we've been planning on this trip for over a month.

It'll work great with my "splash" idea. :wink: The other ink looking one will need a quilt of it's own and the kid one was just too sweet to leave behind. It'll be fun to add squares of that one to a kid's splash project. [img]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...m/IMG_1541.jpg[/img] Flannels... color is a bit off in the tree one... [img]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...m/IMG_1546.jpg[/img] Just some neat trees blowing in the wind...not a flannel. [img]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6.../IMG_1548.jpg?[/img] Batiks! I don't have a plan for these just yet... but I didn't have these colors in my batik stash. I love the flowers as much as the colors. [img]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...m/IMG_1549.jpg[/img] This beauty is a normal 40" in width, but I've admired this fabric for years... just never had a reason to buy it. Now I do. It's going to be the back for "A Walk Through the Park!" Perfect, eh? :wink: [img]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...m/IMG_1554.jpg[/img] These are all some I already have--but they are used for lights on the Garden log cabin squares. (I'm making more) The far left one will be the narrow inner border for the Garden quilt; it's already in the squares. I didn't find another possibility for the outside border--but I haven't been to that BIG shop yet. In the magazine it's called "Shadows on the Pond" but I'm calling mine "Kayaking on the Lake." :wink: [img]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...m/IMG_1551.jpg[/img] This is the one I'm working on--a photo scanned from the magazine--McCall's Quilting August 2009... [img]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...m/IMG_0970.jpg[/img] And of course, I'm not following their color ideas... I'm going to attempt making it greenish at one corner...work to blues... then back to greenish... like the lakes Mark and I kayak in. :D Here are the darks I selected, but some didn't make the final cut, like green leaves. Gosh Karla, You are running circles around me. Your fabrics and pattern are wonderful. Can't wait to see the finished quilt. What a great summer you are having. Suppose your Rachel will be wrapping up her summer in the Anchorage area soon. I know you'll be so excited to have her home again. Thanks for the fabric/inspiration rush! Hope the mini's are all good.

What a wonderful day. They are all beautiful. I just want to reach out and touch them. The batiks are yummy. Have fun with all that great fabric.

That'd be a great idea for classrooms!
I did a few years back, bought some REALLY cheap fabric ($1/yd) at Walmart and used it as wallpaper. Just used thumbtacks to put it up. Was much better than white walls. Looking closer at the black and whites....I like the one that is on the left of the kiddie fabric. So pretty. The flowers look like wood roses. And all those swirls in there! Sort of like a pen and ink. Ok, gotta stop, I'm drooling here......... |

Karla you have such a wonderful eye for colors. I still find that the hardest part, picking material. I guess you either have it or you don't, or hopefully it just comes with experience......I hope anyway.

WHat is a SPLASH quilt? Kayaking? Oh, my! Kayaking is a new addiction for us. We went this morning for two hours. I watched the water a lot and studied the floor where the water was clear to get quilt ideas. :wink: Shemjo--I'll post them again soon. I got so tired of waiting for it to open up, I posted everything elsewhere. I'll get into it again. k3n--I think Storm at Sea is a much more complicated pattern? I just remember a few trying it and it gave them troubles. I'll post some pics of the WIP when I get some blocks completed. |

Karla---I am not a "batik girl", but I LOVE the ones you are using for your kayaking quilt. What a fabulous idea---I cannot wait to see this one finished!! PLEASE, oh PLEASE, post pics as you go--I will not be able to wait until you are finished to see it.
