Thanks everyone for all the compliments. I can't take credit for the color choices, since they were all in the jelly rolls. It would cost a fortune to collect enough batiks, so this is where I find the jelly rolls very helpful. I am not good at making the proper color choices, so having the decision making done for me is very helpful. You really don't need a book to do one. All you have to do is sew the 2 jelly roll groupings into 2 identical panels, pressing the seams in opposite directions on each one. Then make you decisions of the strip width you want to make the "wavy" pattern and start cutting. This one has many 3/4" strips. Next time I won't go any narrower than 1". I also found pressing the seams open as you go helps when you are ready to quilt. My long arm seems to balk at the seams when they are pressed in on direction. I also ironed it with Mary Ellens Best Press to get it nice and flat before hanging it on the long arm.
My suggestion for those of you wanting to try one, is to start with a small wall hanging size first, then go to bigger. I have another one I want to do that is all blacks/whites,browns batiks, and I have 3 jelly rolls for this one. Bargellos are like potato chips, you can enjoy just one. Now I can't stop. |
Love the colors! Great job!
