Hi Melissa, get your DH to make you an extension table. I bet he is real handy at making things. We were lucky enough to have a place make it from the template Colin made and we brought it home and he put the wooden legs on it. Cost 15€ plus a broom handle he cut up for the legs LOL. They are so expensive to buy. Got the idea from someone at the club.

Izy, you are just too bad, but what a great job you made of that meandering thingy, male whatsit or not. LOL :D :D

for starters until you can get the table extension that you really want, you can use your ironing board at the height of you machine table and also a card table will help, even if it is not quite the height that you need. It will hold the bulk of the quilt for you. You did an excellent job. Try a little music to help get in the rythem. They also say a glass of wine will help! great job..

Thanks Pat, I am very fortunate to have a special table made for my machine to fit down into which has abot 3 feet to the left, which is very smooth, I use any spare table chair whatever I can lay my hands on to support the bulk to stop it getting hung up...Now as far as the glass of wine....welll let's just say if I start drinking while quilting, I won't be responsible for what designs I come up with then, but they will be original thats for sure lol

Izy, you did a great job of quilting. I really like how you stippled on the border. I think your quilt inspector said it all. Comfortable and delicious!!! :-) :-)

What a Fantastic Job! Love your meandering too. We call this pattern "Mile a Minute". When my s-i-l made hers, she felt she would be using up her scraps in her bin... Wrong... it made more.
I love the way you've completed it too. Awesome! Your children will love it!

Quiltingly Yours 11-23-2008 03:15 PM

Izy ~ Love your quilt!

I tried to post to let you know how great I felt your quilt was. I think it ended up in cyber space some place? If is shows up soon, I guess you'll really know just how attractive I feel your quilt really is. Great Job! Great Gift!
This pattern is what our quilting group has been calling "Mile a Minute", don't you just love scrappy quilts? They always catch my eye right off.

Awesome Awesome and I love the way you put it all together too.

She is so naughty isnt she? Hey but if it gets the job done, I am going to go find a nude male model and really get inspired!!!

sandpat 11-23-2008 04:44 PM

Izy, that looks great to me. I think we all tend to focus on specific spots that had a little boo boo, but if you wait a few weeks and look at it then, you probably can't even find those areas. I'm not the world's greatest at FMQ, but its fun, I like it and I have to practice on something! You did a great job and this quilt is soo cheery anyway.....see that big smile on Sasha's face??

julieah 11-23-2008 04:50 PM

WOW! I absolutely love your quilt!!!

Bright colors are usually what I work with and I really admire the overall effect you achieved. Gorgeous! They must be thrilled about it.

Posts pics often,

julieah :)

What a wonderful quilt, really like the colors and the I spy type materials, cute inspector too. :D Think I did my meandering way too small/close together, got my nose in close and didn't look at the whole picture. Yours is beautiful.

triciasquilts 11-23-2008 08:12 PM

Boy, what a great looking quilt. I love the colors and your quilting turned out great. I love crazy quilts, but I don't like making them. This one might just give me some inspiration tho!!

Izy-Your quilt is fab-u-lous!!!! I am a free motion flunky. I have tried on many occassions and it just does not go well for me. You are a brave soul--with great results. Keep it up, my dear, and you will be quilting circles around us all. :-)

Great job. Love it. But someone else loves it too. Not going to be able to give that one away by the look of things. You'll just have to whip up another one.

PrettyKitty 11-24-2008 03:04 AM

Oh Izy that is stunning. I am trying to get the courage to try FMQ, you have given me hope!

Nope the quilt inspector will have to wait until her own personal one is finished, this one is well and truly spoken for lol!! :D

Gayle, by nature I am abit of a perfectionist, this is NOT a healthy trait, it has left me in the past with feelings of disappointment and failure...BUT I have realised we all need to enjoy the JOURNEY....that's the success!!!!!

I had great fun meandering and who really cares if I get too close to another line of stitching or end up with right angles or dog's hind leg shapes, so what if my stitches range from teeny tiny, to great big tacking stitches.....I swear I was meandering the shape of male genitals at one point  It had me in fits

I love your outlook...especially that success lies in enjoying the journey. How true ! Your quilt is beautiful.

Oh Izy. I can't say which I like better the fur baby or the quilt. :D The quilt is Awesome. You did VERY good....... And that fur baby just stole my heart.....

AtHomeSewing 11-25-2008 10:13 AM

I love your quilt, the colors are so fun.
AND!!! That quilt inspector is totally cute!!

Spudgm 11-25-2008 12:34 PM

Great job on the quilt. I just took a class on FMQ but will have to wait until after Christmas to actually get anything done.

Again, Great Job!!!

Thanks everyone for your praise, I really appreciate it :D

I think I will have to look into the extension table for my machine. I always felt so awkward when trying to maneuver (sp?) the quilt around for the FMQ. I have a Janome Memory Craft 4000. Any of you have an ET for your JMC 4000 machine? I would so love to graduate from "ditching" and move on to FMQ.

littlehud 11-25-2008 02:18 PM

So cute. The quilt and the inspector.

Izy 11-25-2008 10:58 PM

Upto now I think Sasha is in the lead with the scores

Thanks everyone, you are all so generous with your kind comments :D :D

There are a few 'hiccups' where panic set in when I realised I was getting too close to another line of stitching, but what the heck, it's my first real attempt and only my 4th quilt (the biggest!!), and as you will see it has been 'approved' by the quilt inspector!! :D

a bit late on the "WOW THAT"S AWESOME", but that is really, really great!!!
