After having a nice chat with Craftybear this afternoon, I went back to my machine to quilt and this is what is happening. New needle and clean bobbin area. So what is causing this?

sewsewquilter 10-24-2011 03:24 PM

Wow, I don't know. Strange how it's just at the point. Someone here will be able to help you.

kathy 10-24-2011 03:24 PM

i would say wrong size needle or it's not in just right, i just went thru that on my quilter and it had slipped down just a bit

carolaug 10-24-2011 03:26 PM

Are you moving the fabric to quickly at that the corners?

I'm stopping with the needle down, pivoting the quilt, and then start sewing again....I've tried everything and it keeps doing this.

90/14, checked the needle position.

Wait till the needle starts it's way back up...then it'll have completed the stitch. If you do it on the way down the stitch is not complete.

strange in the corner. but when my stitching was skipping it was the bobin. I took it out and put it back in and it was fine.. another time I had a prewound bobbin that was the wrong type...

Strange things happen in the quilting world! I think the goblins are coming out to play!! :)

quilting memaw 10-24-2011 03:40 PM

My regular machine did that, took it in and had the tension adjusted and cleaned....worked. Good luck, I know how ya feel.

Sandee 10-24-2011 03:52 PM

One repair guy told me on mine it was the machine's timing causing skipped stitches.

Oh no not goblins! I had gremlims in here earlier in the year, I really dont want to deal with goblins too! I'm a loner and dont like sharing my sewing space with either of these two and their tomfoolery.

It is where the needle is when you make the turn. Do an extra stitch without it moving and then turn the corner.

toomanycats 10-24-2011 04:15 PM

odd. could it be something is out of adjustment. josie has nothin'. she is out trying to catch a lizzared under the porch steps instead of in here with me on the computer. bad kitty.

paulswalia 10-24-2011 04:49 PM

I was told to stop at the corner and needle up,needle down a couple of times in the same stitch, then turn and continue sewing. Seems to work.

I think i might give this a try.

Tweety2911 10-24-2011 05:22 PM

Might be the thread. Try a different thread and see if your problem continues. Good Luck in finding the answer!

grandmajuki 10-24-2011 05:33 PM

I'd probably take 2 stitches on the point.
see if that helps
judy

cjsparks 10-24-2011 05:43 PM

Use a different piece of fabric. I had problems with the machine skipping stitches on one knit fabric and on a another knit fabric it stitched perfect. Make sure your needle is all the way in before you tighten. I would definitely try a different fabric...same stitching...trying to make the corner.

gellybean402 10-24-2011 05:50 PM

Did you try re-threading the whole machine? Sometimes this helps as well.

RedGarnet222 10-24-2011 05:59 PM

I know thiis sounds silly but, are you turning the wheel backwards to put the needle into the fabric when you are turning? I can't imagine what else would cause that.

momcpo 10-24-2011 06:03 PM

Have you tried re-threading everything and changing needle and bobbin???

You welcome -
LEATHEFLEA just barely bring the needle up but not out of the fabric...stop...lift presser bar, turn fabric, lower presser bar, and start sewing....like RedGarnet said - making sure you're turning the hand wheel (if you use one) in the right direction (usually towards you).

Practice on scrap fabric till you get it right - good luck

that are starting a NEW section and when you lift the presser foot it is releasing the last stitch you made!

try going one stitch past where you want to go back and start...that way it will lock in that point stitch

sewwhat85 10-24-2011 07:38 PM

have you tried a bigger needle maybe a 16 you know on a long arm machine we use 18 or 20 most of the time

No my machine has the automatic needle down when you stop.

You know I use a 16 on my frame, never even consider that to be the problem on my domestic. I'll give that a try. Thanks

jitkaau 10-25-2011 03:31 AM

Timing - best to take it in to have it adjusted.

luv2so 10-25-2011 03:48 AM

I've had that happen to me too. I make sure I drop the needle twice to make sure the threads lock. It always seems to work doing that. It can be fixed though, even without takin all the stitches out.

Thread a handneedle, put both ends through the eye. Bring the need up through the machine needle hole, catch the thread then back through the same hole, then pull the needle through the loop of thread on the other end of the needle two or three times. You'll have a very small knot that's barely visable on the backside.

so frustrating, try stitching in place 2 times before turning. good luck...

I think you're on to something there. I LOVE this board!

alfosa421 10-25-2011 04:46 AM

Are you hand turning that last stitch into the point? I have had this happen sometimes with hand turning-if you want try taking a stay stitch at the point before turning(hold fabric still and let machine take extra stitch in the same spot) Good luck

You're not allowing the stitch to complete when you stop to pivot.

My machine has the needle down, i dont do anything, when I take my foot off the peddle the machine automatically stops in the down position. Maybe I should turn that feature off?

jarenie 10-25-2011 10:03 AM

When you are quilting you need to lock the turn of the thread. Do this by doing a double stitch at the point. I am a sewer from the old school and when top stitching any item this problem will occure at times. Just do 2 stitches any time you need to change direction and you will not have this problem.
PM me if you have any questions on this.
I have used this for years and my quilting points are always sharp.

flowergrand 10-25-2011 10:24 AM

I would check all of your threading and re-thread. Then slow down at the points. My one teacher called it a pause but not a complete stop as that would cause multiple stitches. Blessings
