I have the 30 blocks finished and am now squaring them up. I have them right up next to each other, but they will have sashing and cornerstones between them. The blocks are 12.5" unfinished.

When I complete the top I will post more pics!

Your quilt is going to be gorgeous. Love the colour combos,
the red stars really catch the eye. Thanks for sharing.
What is the name of the block if you don't mind sharing or did you create it yourself. Thanks.

those star points are so nice that you should consider leaving off the sashing.
it will make good 16-patches, too.

The block is "Blackford's Beauty" according to Bonnie Hunter's Quiltville site. She uses it in a quilt called "Jared Takes a Wife", which is where I got the pattern.

Very pretty

Thanks to all for the kind comments.

So far this is the most involved block I've made as I am a fairly new piecer. I have been handquilting for longer than I've been piecing because in the beginning I started out handquilting embroidered quilt tops, cheater-cloth quilts, and a pieced top that was given to me. Then I found someone who liked to piece but didn't like to quilt them, so she and I exchanged projects for each other...she did my piecing and I did her quilting!

I, too, like the secondary patterns created by not having sashing/cornerstones, but I really need this quilt to be QS and don't think I have enough of the black and red fabric to make another row of blocks to make it bigger without the sashing.

I started putting the sashing and cornerstones on a set of 4 block last night so that I can see how it is going to look. If I don't like it, I will see if I can eek out enough black and red fabric to make another 6 blocks.

Thanks again for all your kind comments!

Okay...here it is with sashing and cornerstones. I just have 4 blocks set together so far.

The first picture is from 10' away...the second picture is zoomed in...

Marlys 06-28-2010 06:37 PM

That is awesome!

watson's mom 06-28-2010 06:39 PM

The sashing really makes the blocks stand out. If you are new to piecing you have a real gift for this particular art form. Thank you for sharing your talent with the rest of us. Beautiful.

shortstuff 06-28-2010 07:01 PM

I like it reminds me of my colors in my avatar

JCL in FL 06-28-2010 07:09 PM

It's a beauty either way. But you could always add borders on it to make it larger and they need not be the same fabric, just the same colors. You could also add corner blocks of the fabric used in the blocks to tie the border more closely if you like. It's really pretty quilt.

Jingle 06-28-2010 07:12 PM

I think it is beautiful and you are doing a great job.

daisey 06-28-2010 07:21 PM

Beautiful!

roserips 06-29-2010 07:41 AM

OOOOh! I can barely wait to see it finished! Sashing and corner stones are perfect to make secondary patterns!
