I like to hand Quilt while sitting in the sun.
After a busy morning (standing in line at the Post Office is probably the main culprit) my back started hurting. While my DH cleaned out the garage , & installed the new washing machine, I set up in the front yard with a folding chair ;back pillows; and a foot stool & hand quilted. It was 78 degrees, perfect. There was enough light that I didn't need my readers & didn't need to lean over to quilt. No extra back strain!! I could talk to DH while he worked, wave at my neighbors, watch the birds, laugh at the cats at play... A perfect afternoon. Here are some pictures of the quilt that I'm working on. I started it for DFL. Now I do it in his memory. back Part that I already quilted. The stiches are bigger than I like. Beautiful quilt, and lesson well learned. Wish our temps were good enough I could sit outside and quilt. Its already too cool here for that.

What a perfect way to spend the afternoon! Your quilt is baeutiful.
I've never quilted setting outside. I guess I should give it a try since I live in FL.
Your quilt is beautiful! |
Such a patient lady. Beautiful work.
What a great memory, not only of your DFL, but also of the afternoon.
Beautiful! Sounds like the perfect day! I also hand-quilt, but never thought of doing it outside! Will have to try it! (But I don't think I could manage without my specs!)
A lovely quilt!
You are lucky to have such warm weather. We had our first snowfall Saturday night. |
I have hand quilted and hand pieced while sitting outside at a campground. It was a nice way to pass the time and it was a conversation starter among other campers who were interested in what I was doing, quilters and non-quilters

Thanks you guys. I appreciate all your comments. We usually don't have our first freeze till Thanksgiving.

I love to bring my sewing machine out on the deck for a big project. Watch the birds while I sew. We rebuilt our deck this summer so did not get to do it much.
Sounds wonderful Im going to have to try quilting outside...I think I would like that.
What a beautiful, pleasant experience to sit outside and quilt! I will hopefully remember this for next summer...

Your quilt is beautiful and so are your stitches...

Sounds like such a relaxing, serene & happy day! The kind of day everyone should take now & then. Your quilt & quilting is gorgeous! I have never hand quilted but someday I would like to learn.

Wonderful quilt and quilting work on this one!!
Beautiful job, lots of memories and most importantly you stopped to enjoy life, friends and family. Something I don't do enough of.
Love your quilt & the fact that you got to work on it while enjoying being outdoors. I have spread a sheet down on the driveway and then sat on it in my fav. lawnchair & quilted during the evenings, The sheet kept the quilt clean.
fantastic!
Makes me want to try hand quilting!
Like what Tinabodina said :-P

Great job...send some of that warmth our way
Your stitches look wonderful to me. I envy you your perfect Sat. too.
Lovely quilt.
I like the look of the bigger stitches! It gives it a more rustic feel. Great job! :D
Good morning Ladies (& a few guys)-
My stitches are bigger on this is because the printed dotted lines are closer together than I can stitch soo... I skipped every other stitch. I wish it was somewhere in between! This is our fall weather. There was no way I could have quilted outside this summer with temperatures between 98 & 105 degrees! I hope this cooler whether lasts. I want to point out that we have low humidity this helps. |
