Oh the heck with it. Leave it alone and besides not all of the center four patches are identical either. Want to remake the whole thing? I think not. Only God makes perfect.

If your mother-in-law is still around, ask her what she'd prefer. If she's not, leave it as she created it. Thanks for sharing.

Absolutely leave them. It will be so much more meaningful!
|
I would definitely leave them as she made it that way - whether intentionally or not. It's a perfect reminder that we all make mistakes and the quilts still come out beautiful because someone special has spent a lot of hours and energy to create something special for us. Call it unconditional love!

I agree with the majority. The quilt is lovely as it is. You and your children will treasure it as a wonderful reminder of
their grandmother. |
It looks to me like there are "almost duplicates" in every row, not perfect duplicates, but close enough to be considered duplicates, if you sort of squint at them. Apparently, your MIL was aware of that and had a reason for doing what she did, so I'd just leave them the way they are. It's charming as it is!

I would leave them!

That kind of thing bothers me, too, I like things spaced right. That's why I don't like scrappy quilts where you have to close your eyes and just take the next scrap you pick up. HOWEVER, scrappy quilts are like that, so if you leave it, it will be historically correct.
