This is quit pretty - great job! Depending on a number of factors (sale fabrics, "likeability" of prints available), I'd do TWO borders (an inner and an outer). Since you have a lot of pastel with accents of dark green, I'd use a medium-scale medium-green floral print with pastel accents to softly bring out the pastels, and a dark green for the outer border (large scale or medium scale). It'd be a gradual color lead from the center out, make the colors pop nicely, while accenting the dark green units. (Just my opinion!!!)

It's truly a lovely quilt & you should be very proud of your "first" effort. A couple of borders wrapped around it will do wonders, you'll love it! We are all our own worst critic!

It is very nice so keep going, you are almost to the finish line.

Beautiful! I might try to find a yellow and dark green to coordinate with these two colors in the quilt. I would use the yellow as an inner border and use the dark green as the outer border. By adjusting the width of the two borders (they don't have to be the same width), you could add several inches to the width and length.
Please don't give up on it. It's very pretty. |
You should finish it put a decorative border and the a floural larger border. It is a beautiful quilt and you should finish it no matte what size it comes out.

I had to take a look at you because my granddaughters name is Leah Stewart and I didn't think she quilted. She doesn't since I know you aren't her. By the way I like your quilt. Put a 2 1/2 inch (cut) border and then a 4 1/2 inch cut border on it. I would do the yellow and green with the green on the outside as a darker framework, even if it isn't real dark, it is darker than the yellow. Jan Stewart

I would make a bunch of coordinating 9 patches to use as a checkerboard border, then perhaps a plain print border, and maybe a piano key finish.

My father always said when you are learning something new, perseverence is as important as being great at the task. I think you have been successful at both.

The dark green border would "stop" the eye and as lutTooQuilt said..."....frame the quilt") |
Whatever you end up doing, the quilt is already lovely - I like the fabrics you used. It will be beautiful.
|
I would choose a dark green border it will frame the quilt nicely . you have done a great job.

I think your quilt is beautiful, the colors really work together, and your ideas to increase it sound great, I say go for it. Good luck, it will be beautiful when you finish it.
|
I like it too and I would go with the dark green or a deep dusky blue since you have lots of blue in it :)
|
I love it. I would put a small inside border of the dark green to frame it and then a pretty pastel or the flower print the outside large border. I really like it..

Wow--you have great color stuff going on. If it really really needs to be bigger--I think you could easily find a fabric that matches--it's so delightfully scrappy. If you can live with a double--use it for a cuddle quilt for the couch.
Either way--it's a quilt to be proud of!! |
Finish this lovely quilt, whatever you do!! Add a border, & it will look fantastic!!! You have the makings of an awesome quilt!! Please post the finished product to let us see the results......

Beautiful job and borders would fill your order for a bigger size.
|
I think you have done a very beautiful job,. I like the thought of maybe about a 2 inch dark green coming back with a light green to make it your size. maybe trim in the darker green. I really like your colors. Not sure if I'm seeing green in your quilt or dark blue. which ever is what I would try to match up. First quilt you say. you sure had me fooled. :) :) :)

Look at some of the 30's prints for the larger outside border after you add a solid inside border. Beautiful quilt, be a treasure when you finish.

Yay! You all have inspired me to put down everything I am doing and just finish it, I should not dwell on this. It is beautiful and thank you all for making me see that again. Seven days from now I hope to be posting a complete picture! Ambitious, I know, but that is me, all or nothing! LOL

Okay, so a lot of snags on the way to completion... ran out of thread, ordered it, never showed up, bought fabric for the borders then I would the scraps so I decided to expand, LOL. IT IS DONE... and on my king size bed, where it is going to stay! It ended up being a large queen or small king! Yay.

Great job!!! Congrats on the finish!!!!
