When Jane Was Blue->An Old Dear Jane
This is my interpretation of Dear Jane. I made it in 2005/6 when I first started quilting. It helped me learn all the techniques of quilting and introduced me to friends who were attempting the same. I was an avid embroiderer and every other block is an embroidered "shadow". The back has a quilt design too. and it was a quilt as you go. All these things my quilt friends thought were weird (now much more common) but I was too dumb to know what was a standard quilting technique, and what was "weird". I named her, "When Jane Was Blue" . I've won many ribbons for her. I just listed her on the Dear Jane Thread today but thought many forum members might not see here buried down in all those posts Enjoy:

I pulled up this thread, scrolled down , and immediately gasped when I saw your quilt. It is truly inspiring. Glad you shared.
Well done. You have more patience than me. Lol

Very pretty!

I bought the dear Jane book and will be starting it up soon. I can't wait to start and love reading and seeing all other dear Jane quilts. Yours is beautiful and love the colors and the uniqueness. WOW. I hope mine comes out half as nice as this one. Do you have any tips?

Now that is very striking
I really like your blue interpretation. I would give it a ribbon if I were a judge. It's one of the prettiest I have ever seen.
Wow, impressive quilt and I like your idea to embroider shadow blocks. Would love to see the back. I'm curious to know how you broke it down to do quilt as you go...
Now that is some "eye candy".
In general, I am not particularly fond of the Dear Jane genre. Yours, however, I simply love. Your thin spiral outlining really makes the whole thing more defined and crisp. Thanks for sharing it.
My dear Jane has been abandoned for some time but today I actually has a plan to start on it again with another quilter who also filed her away...
You did a great job.
This is the best Dear Jane Yet.!
It's very nice! What an awesome project with all those small squares.
I really like your interpretation of Dear Jane. It is uniquely beautiful.

I love it in blue. Great job.
I really like the blues!
I too gasped when I saw it ! I love that you kept in the same colour family. That border fabric is beautiful. I can't believe you started with this pattern, shows determination! Well Done!
It's beautiful and I have to say I admire your courage to begin quilting with such a quilt, however, I've always said that if you don't know the rules, you can't break them, although there are no rules in quilting, just beautiful quilts.
I just love it and your style--Very nicely done. Oh yes, I love the name.

great quilt!!!
She is beautiful!
Ditto BrendaK. So, when you first started quilting, eh? Who were you in your other life???? This quilt is terrific.
Your Baby Jane is absolutely breath-taking! Love your color choice.
I also like your hint of putting the blocks in plastic sleeves as you complete them. Thanks for sharing it. |
Weird !! Well, I guess if beautiful is weird than your quilt is very weird. Absolutely beautiful.
It looks great. I bought the Blue Dear Jane BOM from Stitchin Heaven several years ago, finally started it at an Empty Spools week with Brenda (she is so much fun), we retired, then moved and it is now sitting in my UFO pile for several years. I see all these lovely ones and realize that I really need to start working on it again.
Very nicely done. This is what is called a masterpiece!
