When you cut wrong

I was trying to make this pinwheel block with only using a picture. I didn't think it would be that hard.
I should have made a paper piece but did not. I was measuring and cutting everything seemed to go well until I realized that I cut one piece to short! I guess I could have re-cut, but I really wanted to use what I brought with me, as I was on a retreat. Re-cutting would mean putting it away for over a week.

I decide to flip things inside out and see what would look good. I really like how it came out and there was very little scrap after I messed up. I did document what I did so if I really want I could make more.

Thanks for looking. I really enjoy this forum, I have learned so much here.

Thank you for all a kind posts. I loved to watch Bob Ross in the Morning when the kids were little, that is one of my phrases Happy little accidents.

Misty's Mom - Is that a Bichon in your Avatar? Ours left us 3 years ago and still miss him. Your avatar always makes me smile.

PamS - I called it my Wisconsin Spinning Star since my retreat was at a friends cabin there.

The pattern is Whirling Star 2
http://www.quilterscache.com/W/WhirlingStar2Block.html

I used two different blacks and the yellow and green from this block. My first attempt with Y seams, took me 4 tries to understand the construction and tricks to getting everything flat. My avatar block is also going in the same quilt as the Wisconsin spinning star. Actually working on that quilt today.

craftynell 08-01-2013 09:14 AM

Nice looking block!

Quilter 65 08-01-2013 11:44 AM

That is a very pretty "mistake". I think it would make a lovely quilt. Directions???

Dedemac 08-01-2013 06:03 PM

I will see if I can create the instructions. I have never done anything like this but will give it a try. I did use my glass program to see what a quilt would look like using the single block. This is what it would be a 58 inch square.
I did two different color combinations to see what is possible.

WOW, I have never seen a block like that. You may have created your own personal block. You should think of a name for it.

Krystyna 08-02-2013 03:34 AM
