Whirligig Quilt.

This is done but for the binding. Binding being my least favourite thing to do, I get a few ready and do them all at the same time.
I did the quilting using a method where you copy a panto onto the backing and then quilt from the back. Pattern is Whirligig. Watson |

Great colorful quilt!
Yes a cheery quilt...so how did you like your method of quilting? And why did you do it that way?
Oh Watson, that's beautiful!! I adore happy pinwheels!!! :) You did a great job.
So pretty and cheerful! Lovely quilting, too.
It has such a beautiful look of spring. I really like it.
That is so pretty!! love your colors. a friend in England has been making one of those. Its at the long arm quilter now. Very nice indeed!
love the pinwheels in the borders. ties together nicely.
Wonderful quilt, love the bright colors.
I really like your quilt. So pretty and a unique pattern. Fun colors. Everything is fun about it.

There is a woman on You Tube that traces her panto pattern onto the back of the quilt and then quilts it. For her technique I think it’s defeating the purpose of the panto but that’s just my opinion.

I went searching for this pattern last year and found it in a pile of discarded quilting magazines donated to my quilting group. Now, I just need to find a place for it on my on my quilt "To Do List". https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/smile.png So nice to see someone else like this pattern enough to make it themselves. It is fun and happy!

I used the quilt-from-the-back technique because I wanted a repeating pattern edge to edge and, as I have a mid arm, you can't use panto's on it. Therefore, drawing it on the backing and then following it to quilt was my best choice.
I found it to be pretty easy and quick to follow and also that I only had to mark every other column because I could just look at the one I had done before and copy it. Watson |
Neat pattern Watson and I really like the pinwheels in the border...makes for a fun and colorful quilt. Great job!
Happy and fun colors. A needed boost this time of year.
Neat quilt and quilting, Watson. And neat way to use a panto on a sit down machine.

That’s such a pretty quilt! I tried quilting from the backside. It turned out fine, but I kept looking on the front to make sure it looked ok. I used the backing fabric pattern for the quilting.

What a happy quilt with wonderful quilting. You did a great job. That is my favorite way to do an edge to edge too on my Tiara. If I make up my own design it is difficult to keep it consistent in size, or I start out too small and regret it halfway through the quilt. I just bought two more panto designs to expand my selection: one being for Bonnie Hunter's Grassy Creek.

Where did you find this Whirligig pattern? I've looked for it but am unable to find it under this name. Would appreciate your help!

I like things that make me smile, and your quilt did. It has beauty and whimsy.
Very bright and beautiful, Watson!!
Did you enjoy using a panto to quilt from the back? Do you sew through paper?
Love your colorful quilt! Great job on the quilting too! Funny how we each have things we don’t like to do. I love doing the binding and pieced borders but hate to do plain borders and basting.
Such a light and airy quilt. The bright colors are always a real treat. The quilting is also so nice. Thanks for sharing.

Copycat....I will link you to the video.
Basically, you trace the Panto onto the back of the backing (So, you have to be able to see through it. ), sandwich your quilt and then just follow the panto, quilting the back. Be sure you have whatever thread you want to show up on the front in your bobbin. I didn't mind it although all the tracing was boring. I traced with a blue washable pen. I love this! So bright and cheerful and the pattern is just great...... it just goes to show how a variation on a basic block can make a fantastic quilt.
