Whirling Octagons
4 Attachment(s)
I stumbled across this block when fishing around online for inspiration.
It was not fun, I can tell you, drawing it into EQ; but I managed to create a usable pattern. I did straight-line at the ditch in the octagons and background. I used my embroidery machine to quilt the centers and the border. The quilt will be added to many the quild i belong to are going to donate to The Lydia Project: http://www.thelydiaproject.org/ |
Wow. That's a beauty.

very nicely done. i'm not sure how i would approach drawing that in EQ. i think i see that the longer orange strip is a meeting of the strip in the triangle y-seamed to the octagon; right? and i like the border treatment, too.

Everything about this quilt is delightful. Colors, fabric patterns, block, and quilting are all superb.

That is a beautiful quilt. The pattern is very intriguing! Color choices are great. I checked out the website as I had not heard of that project. Looks like another wonderful way to help other women face difficulty in life as they face cancer and all of the ramifications that come with it. Thank you for sharing your quilt and the information.

What a wonderful quilt! The name is sure descriptive of the design.
|
This is a beauty and I love the combination of colors, embroidery and quilting!
|
Beautiful results even if it was a bear to piece!
|
Very unusual pattern! I love it and your choice of fabrics is wonderful.
|
It turned out just beautiful. Love those fabrics and embroidery.

it just looks difficult. it was actually very easy to piece. drawing it into EQ was the challenge. |

there are no y-seams at all. the seam attaching the first triangular strip-set is a partial seam. once all 8 triangle sets have been attached, the first seam can be completed. |
Beautiful results!
|
partial seams. yes. this looks great!!!
|
Looks good!

Super. BrendaK

I don’t know what the Lydia project is but they are much blessed to get this masterpiece for whatever purpose.
|
How cleverly pieced this is, so interesting, yet rather easy. Wonderful!!

Wow! Beautiful quilt. Great job. I don't think I have ever seen that pattern.
|
Both this and your DD9P are wonderful. Thanks for the construction tips and information re: the Lydia Project. It is nice to see you contribute some of your own fine work !
|
That is lovely, but no way would I try to do that.
|
A labor of Love!!!!!
|
I really like this one!
|
Absolutely beautiful, everything about it.
|
Wow, can't imagine drafting that one out in EQ. I will freely admit I am a total novice with the s/w. I just haven't spent enough time playing with it but even if I had, don't think I would have attempted trying to draw it in EQ. I really like the machine embroidered centers. I also think this block would make a very attractive quilt with each hexi treated as a separate block with sashing and not having the interwoven look.

Great quilt! Interesting design and beautifully done.
|
Beautiful quilt, designs etc, you knocked it out of the ball park with this one!
|
That’s a neat quilt! Using the same fabric for the thin blue inner border and the binding was a great idea (I hope you don’t mind if I steal that idea sometime) and I really like the way you quilted it. The more I look at it the more things I see that I like. I think I’d have a hard time parting with it.

Neat one, Patrice! Really interesting layout. I like the pattern, and also like the way you quilted it. Great choices

Rob the good thing about parting with it is that it's for a good cause. and i can always make another. and will. :) |
I love the design. It is such a pretty quilt!
|
Nicely done and very unique. Love it. I keep going back and looking at it.

Patrice this absolutely striking!! I do not have EQ but I had to try figuring it out--with graph paper, info from Mr. Google on how to draw a perfect octagon, and a bunch of scraps. I am very pleased with my attempt and learned a whole pile in the process. I need to make a block for the Tinners group in our guild. I hope you don't mind if I use your block and give you credit for the inspiration. It is so unique.

drawing the basic shapes was not the problem. (notice her video does not show how she drew the stripes.)
drawing the stripes that went on an angles was the hard part. the geometric maths for that was waaaaaaaay over my head. lol and EQ will only let you divide the workspace into so many "snaps." |

but you can only give me credit for being inspired by one i saw that somebody else had already created. i like the way i used the blocks much better than the way she used hers but that's about as hard as i can pat myself on the back. |
Thank you and I shall include that info on the fact sheet. I have had great fun participating in our 'Tinners' program and try to make a unique block for each tin I am given. This on is going to wow someone's socks off!
