From white sashing to charcoal sashing

2 Attachment(s)
Back in February I posted the results of a mystery quilt day, sponsored by the past presidents of our quilt guild in Guelph. Its always a fun day, but I came away unhappy with my quilt. I always use stash materials for these, but this time the results did nothing for me; Too Blah!

So I recently finished taking all the blocks apart and reassembling them in Charcoal rather than white. But as this "lap" quilt was too small for me, I decided to sash everything a second time. Now it's more exciting. And I can see some pretty dramatic quilting happening here. I posted the original as well as the new version.
I'll add an additional border 6 inches all around while I wait for the wide back material I ordered to arrive. I'll repost when the quilt is finished.

Oh, yes! The charcoal sashing made all the difference! I love the simplicity of the quilt top and can't wait to see the quilt quilted!

Quiltngolfer 04-14-2014 12:37 PM

Quite a difference. It is amazing what a big difference can be made with just a different colored sashing.

klgls 04-14-2014 12:38 PM

I really like the gray too! That was a lot of seam rippin'!

I love the dark colors in the background. Doesn't go well with my white English Bull Terrier mix though~~lol

I thought I was the only one who came away from a workshop with my project in hand only to do redo it when I got home. I do love your change.

Same here. I particularly love the arrangement of color strata in the first one.

twinkie 04-16-2014 04:45 AM

I liked the white, however the black really makes the colors pop. I have found out if I don't like how something looks, I won't ever finish it.

BrendaK 04-16-2014 04:49 AM

I like them both. As was said, "Night and Day". Too bad you couldn't have done it both ways and then put them together. Look forward to seeing it after it's quilted. BrendaK

Love the Charcoal, makes it pop more.

First, you and your seam ripper must have become best friends! What patience you have. When I have stuff to rip out can I send it to you? Now, as to your quilt. I liked it with the white blocks, I thought it was pretty. But when you changed it to charcoal...WOW! That was a brilliant idea, and I NEVER would have thought of it. I think white or black. Now, I'm going to keep that in the back of my mind for future reference. The quilt is beautiful, great job!

nunnyJo 04-16-2014 07:21 AM

fangman 04-16-2014 07:40 AM
