The stars are appealing, like they were hand pieced and someone didn't know how to put it together, but it reflects someone's labor of love. Maybe if they would have had the QB to help it could have been a real pleasure to put it together. The star points are pretty nice and I like the color combinations of the stars. If you take the blocks apart and square them, you may come up with something really original, it reminds me of a star spider web.

I love it because it makes me think about what my first quilt might have looked like had I not had a good teacher among other things. I have some blocks like that, that I got at a garage sale in a couple of tubs of quilting items. I'm not even sure they are completely 100% cotton. I was going to throw them out because of quality until I joined this board. Now I'm going to join them and have it quilted and enjoy it.

Maybe.......whoever made it, did it from the heart.....Maybe they did not have the money for classes or tools to do it what some may call "right". I think it is beautiful. I don't think I could be critical of someone trying to quilt.....because they had a longing to create one. This creation is their creation, and it is beautiful. Hey...start a new fad....call it the "quilt that was hand and machine sewed, square and non squared, but made with love quilt" I think it gives it charm!

I'm with the finish it and keep it brigade! I think it is really quirky and appealing. Quilting will give it even more charm. This would be great thrown over a porch chair, or for a small person to play on. Do let us know what you decide.

Is it very old? Lend it to me and I'll put it in our antique quilt show...the show is very popular and, of course, I'd take very good care of your quilt it before returning it to you. There are dozens of quilts in the show. They come from family attics, old farmhouses and barns, camps and all sorts of places all over the Moosehead Lake area.Few, if any, are perfect yet all are interesting and we learn from them. I'm sure we could welcome a 'guest' quilt.

I found an old quilt in an airport hangar with a motor wrapped in it. I took it home, and gently washed the grease out of it and folded it to look its best and laid it on top of my filing cabinet with the 72' width, hanging over the sides. EVERY day, I look at that lovely old quilt and figure I gave her a new home. Just like a stray cat. Doing that, makes us both happy and blessed. |
