Well, Jean, I never saw a quilt you made I didn't like, but these are wonderful. I am with you on the pink. It is my least favorite color, but it all depends on what is done with it. I am loving seeing your posts and all the praise you get. GO GIRL!! Sure glad you came to play with us and I look forward to seeing what you do next. Hope people realize what bargains you have listed on Etsy. Sounds cheap to me, and I would be buying if I didn't have a houseful of quilts, and making more (with a little help from one of my favorite sister-in-laws.:o:thumbup:

I first thought of yellow when I read the title. I like it and have always have had some main room painted yellow. Not screaming sunshine yellow, but now pale either. I'd never wear it - not a great color for blondes. But I have a quilter friend who has an immediate visceral reaction to it - on walls, clothes and fabric. To each her own.

As for the color brown, I guess it depends on what it's paired with. I read once, years ago in some fashion magazine, that no one looks good in brown. Except maybe a redhead. I think another reason is that since you don't see it much in fashion, it doesn't carry over to other places. Even for men - I work with some beautifully dressed men who spend a fortune on their suits. I can't remember the last time I saw a brown one.

Reading all the posts, I think I should make a quilt in pink, yellow, aqua and brown... just to prove it could work! Oh yeah.. green was mentioned as well. Any other colors I need to add? ROFL!

Yours are lovely. Used with the nice shades from brown to gold is very nice, calm and cozy.
peace

All the quilts shown are lovely. It's a good thing that we all like different colors. Just think about what we would be missing if we all liked the same color. BrendaK

They are both gorgeous! Your collection of browns/rusts is fabulous in these quilts!

ChrisB 06-28-2014 03:43 PM

I like the color combinations. Can't decide which quilt I like the best. They are both beautiful.

Teddybear Lady 06-28-2014 03:48 PM

I never liked orange, then something happened to me I guess. Now it's one of my favorites. I'm not into brown myself, but there are some beautiful quilts on here using brown. Yours are very pretty.

teacherbailey 06-29-2014 03:11 AM

Your quilts are gorgeous! I am not a fan of brown. Don't know what to do with it, can't figure out what colors it goes with best. Got tired of brown in the '70's when everything, it seemed, was brown and gold and avocado...However, I am a purple person. I know lots of people don't like purple....so it takes all of us to use all of the colors!

Pink, yellow, aqua, green and brown are begging for you to add some purple and orange! Wait, I think this would really work! Pastel shades of all of the colors, with some white or cream or tan background, and some dark brown for
"punch" and to counterpoint all of the pastels..... Solid pastels with a great brown batik!

Homemother 06-29-2014 03:19 AM

I oooohhhh and aaaawwww over earth tone quilts but cannot bring myself to make one. I've made fall wall hangings with brown but find that it's not in my palate when I choose colors for larger projects. I'm not a brown hater, just not in my top choices. Right now I'm stepping out and using Bonnie Hunter's color choices in her Celtic Solstice pattern. I'm not a fan of using a lot of green and yellow, but there they are and I'm doing it. My color of choice is BLUE!!! (Which I understand goes beautifully with brown!)

callen 06-29-2014 03:19 AM

I'm not a big fan of brown but I have used it often in a few of my quilts. Yours are absolutely gorgeous. That 2nd quilt is very eye catching.

I think what we have here is a scrappy quilt! *giggle*

Yooper32 06-29-2014 04:04 AM

I think that brown is restful for the eyes. Love the modern designer brights, but after so much color, brown is a soothing relief.

lclang 06-29-2014 04:21 AM

Not a fan of brown. I find it difficult to work with as I like brights.

Ksg41851 06-29-2014 04:48 AM

At least in older days brown fabric doesn't hold up as well. It disintegrates. Otherwise the color is fine.

Quiltshaker 06-29-2014 04:55 AM

Lovely quilts!!! I like browns!!!

IshtarsMom 06-29-2014 05:30 AM

Your quilts are beautiful...guess I never met a color I didn't like...it's all in what you mix it with that makes the difference..I don't have a great color sense when it comes to putting them together but I know what I like when someone else does it..

jeanneb52 06-29-2014 06:24 AM

Omg...they are lovely. Look like an autumn day love the browns

Quilty-Louise 06-29-2014 06:30 AM

I am one of those people who doesn't like brown. Oh I have plenty of brown
in my stash, but to make a quilt with it doesn't won't happen for me.

Several years ago on another website I was challenged to make a baby
quilt using brown. I got everything cut out, and 1 row sewn, before the
road block hit me. Tried for 3 years to finish this baby quilt, but just couldn't
do it.

To this day I can't even bring myself to open the little plastic shoe bin
with the project in it.

I do use SOME brown in projects but no more than I have too.

As far back as I can remember brown has always been a color I didn't like.
I also remember as a child that my parents went to visit some friends of
theirs and of course us kids (my brother & I) was with them. I had on a
brown outfit, and Irene (parents friend) as my mom how long have I been
sick. Mom told her that I wasn't sick. She than made the comment that brown
is not a good color for me to wear because it "drained" my complexion to the
point of making me look ill.

Guess that must be about the time I started disliking the color. The ONLY
time I have ever worn brown since than was if it was a uniform (school, or work).
To this day I do NOT own any brown clothing.

I DO like light tan/khaki colors though.

cpcarolyn 06-29-2014 06:49 AM

Beautiful quilts.

institches33 06-29-2014 07:07 AM

Funny how someone could look at your beautiful quilts and say "I don't like brown!".

Love fall colors!

Sew Freak 06-29-2014 07:21 AM

both are beautiful!

MargeD 06-29-2014 08:25 AM

Both your quilts are beautiful. I have to admit that I can admire brown and earth tone quilts, although brown is not one of my favorite colors. That said, my BF requested a log cabin quilt for her log cabin home several years ago and requested that it be brown. I found a pattern on the cover of a quilt magazine which combined log cabin blocks, and maple leaf blocks with an appliqued log cabin in the center of the quilt. With maybe one exception, I consider this quilt one of the best quilts I have ever made, she loved it, it hangs from her second floor balcony beside her fireplace and she tells me she proudly tells anyone who comments on it that I made it especially for her.

Taughtby Grandma 06-29-2014 10:03 AM

Those would be 2 of my favorite as well, they are beautiful. Generally I don't use a lot of brown in my quilts just because I use more blues and reds. Not saying I never use brown, just not usually.

radarxa 06-29-2014 10:16 AM

[QUOTE=Madan49;6777235]I keep seeing people say "I don't like brown quilts." I just wonder why. These are two that I've made, and they are two of my favorites. Now I'm not saying YOU have to like them. Just wondering why so many people don't like brown in quilts?[/QUOTEIO
Obviously, I can't speak for everyone, but you did ask. First, let me say that your work is beautiful. However, I have never looked at a brown quilt and swooned. Brown is a neutral color and never, ever does a thing for me. Again, please don't be offended, but I find them boring and totally without visual appeal. I love the eureka pattern and didn't even recognize it in the brown. I want my quilts to be eye candy, not something that blends into the background. Everyone has their own tastes and mine lead me to work with beautiful colors.

Vivian Ketron 06-29-2014 10:38 AM

Gorgeous quilts. I haven't made very many earth tone quilts but I like them.

IBQUILTIN 06-29-2014 01:23 PM

I agree with you too. I love browns, especially in fall quilt. But, then again, I love COLOR, wherever it comes from. You know, like Brown and Turquoise

Luv Quilts and Cats 06-29-2014 02:58 PM

I like both your quilts. I have used brown in my quilts.

JanieH 06-29-2014 04:30 PM

I love brown in quilts, clothes, etc. Maybe at some point those people who don't like brown quilts were frightened by a really bad one. But if they will just look at yours, they would fall in love with them.

My husband loved brown, blue, and peach combined in a quilt!

Debbie B 06-29-2014 04:43 PM

I pretty much like all colors. Both of your quilts are beautiful!

Heather Hayllar 06-29-2014 05:26 PM

I love the browns through to gold too! Just like you have done. About to do a jelly roll race at our retreat in those exact tones (Stonehenge) Give me those tones nearly every time :)

Mrs Finch 06-29-2014 08:00 PM

I like browns and I really like your quilts. They are wonderful.

papagrandma12 06-30-2014 03:15 AM

Not a big brown fan, but you did a great job with it.

paoberle 06-30-2014 05:46 AM

It's all in the colors that you like. I'll bet you wear browns and golds. The quilts are beautiful.

Caswews 06-30-2014 06:24 AM

Oh browns and pinks ! Yes ... LOL

Such beautiful quilts

ladypetite 06-30-2014 06:43 AM

I am the oddball.....AND....I LOVE your brown quilts. Great job!!

Wanabee Quiltin 06-30-2014 07:25 AM

I was not excited to make a brown quilt for my grandson's wedding gift but I did. And now it is one of my favorite, it's a brown scrappy and just lovely with gold and some red and whatever I could find. Lovely quilts you have made.

sewmini 06-30-2014 08:16 AM

Ooooo love that second one and I happen to be one that loves brown in quilts. Planning a brown with teal for my next quilt. B-U-T-ful!
