<!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <w:WordDocument> <w:View>Normal</w:View> <w:Zoom>0</w:Zoom> <w:DoNotOptimizeForBrowser/> </w:WordDocument> </xml><![endif]--> I sent "String Crossroads" to my granddaughter. This was the first quilt I designed from scratch, and I wanted her to have it to remember me (not that I'm going anywhere for a LONGLONG time!).
She loved looking at all the different fabrics that I included. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree--I remember spending hours looking at my maternal grandmother's and great-grandmother's quilts wondering "Who wore this fabric?" or "Where did this material come from?" Their work was an inspiration to me, though I didn't quite realize it at the time. We never know what people will remember about us in years to come. I hope people remember about me, "She was a kind person, and she was a quilter." |
Great quilt and great memories! That is what quilting is all about. Your granddaughter will love it.

Yes indeed!
A beautiful quilt for a beautiful little girl! This quilts is at its right home. Love the expression on her face! |
Yes, spreading the joy and love is what quilting is about. A grandniece, who had been living in a car until her aunt rescued her, commented on the quilt I sent her, "I didn't know anyone loved me that much." Your DGD obviously feels the love that fine quilt represents.

I love your quilt and your granddaughter I'll bet is going to be a quilter, Love to see kids appreciate something handmade with love. great job grandma

One of my favorite memories is playing with my mother's button box and muffin tins in our shoe box of a living room. Think that's what started it for me. Now you wouldn't believe what's crammed in my shoe box of a sewing room. But I do have a dedicated space and grateful for it. So I think that this might be the start of something bigger for your niece.

Beautiful quilt and adorable granddaughter! Isn't it fun when they love our quilts? When I finish one and send it home with Zach or Gabi they are so thrilled. Gabi has started showing some interest in quilting and so we have been working on a quilt of her choosing. So much fun!!!!

Angelia, that is truly a beautiful quilt you designed, full of energy, life, and love .What a treasure for your granddaughter, and she will spend hours and hours poring over each fabric and delighting in this gift you've made just for her. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if she grows up to follow in your sewing footsteps.
|
Yes good reason to quilt.
|
What a beautiful quilt you designed. I love the name you gave the quilt. Your GD sure looks happy to have it! It looks like you made a good size that she will enjoy using through the years. I have not attempted string piecing yet. This is the prettiest scrappy quilt using strings that I have ever seen. Do you have a tried and true method of string piecing that you can share? Thanks for sharing your lovely quilt.

I have similar memories. My Mother and I would lie in bed in the morning and play dress shop- "hello, Miss, I'll take 2 yards of that fabric". I'm sure it was a ploy to make me stay in bed a few minutes longer. Your quilt is beautiful, and thank you for making me smile.
