thought I would show you what I have been working on for what seems like forever. It is all hand sewn and I will hand quilt it. Hope it is done in my lifetime. Have made a lot of progress on it the last few weeks. This is what I plan to use on our bed if ever it is finished.

you can see it is almost down the side

Sharon M 02-26-2009 11:10 AM

Thank you Alaskan Lady, I think I see the light at the end of the tunnel now :D

Jim's Gem 02-26-2009 11:10 AM

Wow!!! beautiful. That will deffinatelly be an heirloom. Don't stop, you must get it done someday!!!

BlueChicken 02-26-2009 11:11 AM

That is stunning, well done!

Not far to go now.

I'm doing one the same, only in bright rainbow colours. It's going to take something like 1,400 hexagons, and so far I've done about 200. It's going to take a while! lol

crkathleen 02-26-2009 11:17 AM

WOW!!! Very beautiful!!!

well you have a few hexies to go. :D My husband asked me how many in mine but never counted, will do that when it is done. But it is nice way to use up small pieces of material. So there are quilts out there that can be made even with the high cost of material. I work on this one when my back is bothering me from setting at the sewing machine too long or when my machine is down for repairs (like it is now)

BarbS 02-26-2009 11:41 AM

Wow that is beautiful...........I love to see what can be made out of small pieces of fabrics......amazing!

pocoellie 02-26-2009 11:47 AM

Barbm 02-26-2009 03:11 PM

maybe you and hubby can downsize your bed to a twin so it will fit and it get finished faster. :)

It is gorgeous, I admire your "stick-to-it-ness"

quiltwoman 02-26-2009 03:42 PM

Sharon, your quilt is spectacular. I can only imagine the time you have put into making it. Keep on going--it's an heirloom in the making.

BlueChicken 02-26-2009 03:49 PM

I only know how many in mine because I put it into EQ6 so I knew how much fabric I would need and how many hexagons across the bottom and up the side.

I do love the hand sewing aspect, although every now and then I can't face it and don't touch it for a while.

What you have accomplished is awesome, it's the sort of thing that gets passed down through families and even strangers can see how much effort has gone into it.

Well done girl, it's stunning!

:-)

gcathie 02-26-2009 03:54 PM

hey I reconize some of that fabric.....:-).....lovely......your almost there....:-)

sandpat 02-26-2009 04:09 PM

Oooohhhh, it is beautiful! I think it is super special because you are hand sewing and hand quilting. It is so relaxing to do that isn't it? You are getting so close now...it will be hard to put it away now until you have the top done!

beachlady 02-26-2009 04:20 PM

Absolutely beautiful!!!!

Sharon M 02-26-2009 05:57 PM

thank all of you for your kind words :-) I have enjoyed working on it and now that it is getting close to done (size wise) I want to keep at it. As far as handing it down...I don't have any children of my own. :( I do have a stepson and daughter in law. I have been in the family since he was 18 and he will be 43 next month. However they don't have any children, she wasn't able to and they decided not to adopt. So our family is very very small. I am an only child (the good kind :D ) my husband is an only child (the spoiled kind  ) My step son is an only child and so is his wife. They are both sweeties and I have made them quilts and they do appreciate them. I have a lifelong friend and she wants it...lol. They can duke it out when I am gone.

gcathie 02-26-2009 06:01 PM

Now I'll drink to that!!.......I have quite a few the same way......:-)

Shemjo 02-26-2009 06:04 PM

What a beautiful undertaking! You will be so proud when it is completed! Congratulations!

I have a top someone made, but I have no history of it. Please do label it especially because of the small family! :?

Machel 02-26-2009 06:13 PM

pretty pretty, I know how you feel I made one of those and it took me seven years off and on. I finally finished it in 05. It was a christmas present for my husbands grandma she passed away in 06 now my mother-in-law has it and I would like it back someday to pass on to my daughter since she is the only girl in the family.

littlehud 02-26-2009 06:58 PM

jacquemoe 02-26-2009 07:08 PM

OH WOW! That is absolutely gorgeous!!!!!! I am working on a quilt that seems like it's going to take forever. I told my dh that, if I die before I finish it that he'd better find someone to finish it for me. We can't seem to leave this place until we finish ALL the quilts, Amen?

Ms Grace 02-26-2009 07:31 PM

What a beautiful quilt!
I started a grandmother's flower garden this winter and have about 11 flowers made. A long ways to go! Seeing your quilt is inspiration to keep on working on this project.
How are you planning to quilt this beauty?
