A wonderful gift

My friend, Kim, (dglvr) whom I met here on this board, sent me the best gift today. Lots of quilting templates!!!! And, the beautiful bedspread underneath them. I could not believe it when I opened the box. My pictures just doesn't do them justice. I am one lucky gal!!!!! Just one more reason why I love this board. I have met so many fellow quilters here that I would never have met in my life if it weren't for this board. I am truly blessed. I have made so many lasting friendships since coming here. I am proud to be part of this community.

wow nice gift

Helen S 06-27-2012 07:12 PM

Awww...that was sure sweet of her! And the bedspread is drop-dead gorgeous! Did she make it herself?

#1piecemaker 06-27-2012 07:29 PM

She found this in some yard sale items from a neighbor lady that passed away. Can you believe a family parted with this heirloom? And, Kim REALLY must like me to part with her find. But, she is a terrific gal.

JuneBillie 06-27-2012 07:56 PM

So nice of her.

katesnanna 06-27-2012 08:03 PM

OMG that is GORGEOUS!!

debcavan 06-28-2012 01:42 AM

I know that rose technique. My Mom crocheted them so I know they are very dimensional. It is truly gorgeous.

quiltingcurious 06-28-2012 03:18 AM

That is a beautiful crocheted bedspread, love the roses in varegated pink, make a coverlet years ago in that color.
It is amazing that a family would part with that, so painstaking, real family heirloom. She did elegant work, her gauge is perfect, as well as sewing the blocks together, looks professional. What a blessing from Kim! The templates are neat too.

Quilt-Till-U-Wilt 06-28-2012 04:27 AM

Lucky you. Just beautiful, and you can't ever have too many templates.

Yes. It is crocheted. I fiddle a little bit with the hook. But, not to this extent. I'd never pick up that small of a thread to work with. I don't know what kind of thread she used but this stretches a little. Its not a yarn. Or a cotton thread. It feels wonderful!

OMG I live in Arkansas and have one just like it!! My grandmother made all the grandchildren one in the 1950's.

GramaLaura 06-28-2012 06:41 AM

OMGoodness.....what a gorgeous surprise!!!! :)

dglvr 06-28-2012 06:44 AM

Oh garsh. Thanks Leesa for all the kind words. And everyone else. I'm so glad that bed spread has a great new home.
There were 2 truck and 3 car loads of crafty items for me the have the Craft Estate sale. I found a few items like this that I put away for the family to take but they said no. I couldn't believe it. I took a picture of the yard sale standing behind the bedspreads and Leesa commented that those were beautiful so beings they didn't sell I was so happy to send 1 of them to a great new home. There were 2 so another neighbor took 1 too.
I love this board and all it has to offer. Great friends and hours of enjoyment. Thanks Leesa for being such a wonderful friend. Enjoy. :) :) :)

I wonder if these are that old. The kids couldn't tell me anything about them. They said they had never seen them before. They were in a big plastic bag packed into a room full of crafties. The best part is they will not be put back in bags never to be seen now. That makes me smile. :)

Mariposa 06-28-2012 06:55 AM

Aren't we two lucky Arkansans. I just keep looking at this thing and looking at it. I can't believe how gorgeous it is. Talking about patience. Whoever made this had so much patience. Wow!!!

tutt 06-28-2012 02:05 PM

Yes we are lucky. Mine is unique in that mine was the last grandchild's finished. My grandfather had a sever stroke and my grandmother couldn't get out to get more thread so my ecru (background) is two different shades in places, which makes me love it even more. I was in the third grade when the first stroke occurred so it was probably finished in either 1960 or 1961. My mother never let me use it, so it's never been used or washed and good as new. Please let the people you have treasures use them, my boys won't ever appreciate these treasures since they were hidden away :(
