Years ago, I won a raffle at our church bazzar for two twin size quilts. It is cross stitched and hand quilted. I made the mistake of letting my son use one and it got ruined but I still have the other one. It's been in a zipped plastic bag and in my attic for years.
I don't have a need for it since we don't have twin size beds anymore. I'm thinking of selling it.

The back. Dh so kindly helped to keep the wind from blowing it. Toby had to see what he was doing, of course! :lol

or donate it back to the church for another raffle!

PaperPrincess 05-01-2011 02:09 PM

Beautiful quilt, no clue on value, however, I would take the last pic, pull it into photoshop, write 'Merry Christmas' across the quilt and send it out for my christmas card. It's a hoot!

colleen53 05-01-2011 02:09 PM

aren't hubbies grand !!!

MinnieKat 05-01-2011 02:17 PM

Don't you have any family members or friends that you can gift it to? Any weddings coming up?

MIJul 05-01-2011 02:21 PM

I've seen them sell at the Amish quilt auctions for anywhere from $350 and up.

chairjogger 05-01-2011 02:26 PM

My heart skipped a beat here. I have this very quilt for a full. My grandmother ( I did a little cross stitch on the boarder) did this very style for my wedding 34 years ago, in blues.
Wonder if my kids sell what I have. really hoping not.

Really sucked in air on this one. We celebrate when we find things at auctions and estate sales. But I have her memory of love burned in my mind as she worked so very hard to finish before my wedding.

Good luck with your venture.

debcavan 05-01-2011 02:33 PM

OMG, if you had it appraised, I think you would find it would be valued way over $1000. I was shocked when one of mine came in at $1900 and one of our group raffle quilts was $2400.

I don't think a twin quilt would make a good wedding gift, unless the couple were very old fashioned. :lol

I have very little family and no friends that would want/need a twin size. I just hate to see it sit in my attic not being used but I don't have a wall for it either and it really wouldn't go with my decor at all.
chairjogger: what a coincidence! I can understand why you cherish that quilt so much, I would too! I'll bet it is beautiful in blues!!

BeeNana 05-01-2011 02:43 PM

I would seriously do a search for a licensed quilt appraisals. Contact the nearest quilt museum in your area or next state. They may know who to contact. Also do a google search. It is a wonderful quilt. Sometimes at the larger quilt shows they have appraisers at the site of the show.

Sewfine 05-01-2011 02:49 PM

Beautiful quilt.

If there was a helper hall of fame, your hubby would be the grand display!

BTW, beautiful quilt!

Hubby's pic certainly should be used for something good.

What about just copied for note cards from you!

Me too. And the dog seems bewildered to find to find Daddy lying on the ground. He's a very puzzled fur kid.

dunster 05-01-2011 03:27 PM

That is a very pretty quilt. I have no clue what you could get for it, but wanted to say that keeping it in a plastic bag is not a good idea. It would be better to roll or gently fold it and place it in a cotton pillowcase or sheet. Even better, keep it on a guest bed, protected from sunlight.

Love love love this idea!

ckcowl 05-01-2011 03:30 PM

if there is an up coming quilt show in your area they at times have an appraiser available- for a fee you can have your quilt appraised- then you will know what it is worth before selling it- and you can include the appraisal as part of the sale.

carolaug 05-01-2011 04:17 PM

But...its only worth what someone will pay for it...

There is only one bed in my house which is king size. I have no guest bedrooms.

Yooper32 05-01-2011 05:29 PM

You can just see poor Toby's thoughts at this strange behavior. Shouldn't mess with dog's minds like that, LOL. PS. that quilt is beautiful and packed with much hand work.

dpparris 05-01-2011 05:32 PM

I would just lay it across the bottom of my bed.

Quilted Horse 05-01-2011 06:17 PM

OMG!!! I have to laugh...I also have this same quilt!!! Not sure what size it is (I'll have to check) but I bought it at a yard sale a few years ago for about $30. (I knew it was worth at least that much!) I just have it folded on a quilt rack and occasionally I hang it on my ever revolving quilt display wall. Mine has one small hole in it which I suppose I should fix. I don't know what the value is but greatly appreciated the handwork that went into it. I think it must have been a kit or one of those newspaper patterns from about the 30's. If you find any info about this, please PM me, I'd love to learn more.

quiltlady37 05-01-2011 06:30 PM

beautiful quilt. It should not be stored in a plastic bag. I have always been told to store quilts in muslin or a pillow case. The plastic bag will damage the fabric.

CindyinNY 05-01-2011 07:58 PM

Thank you for the tip on storage, I will take it out of the plastic. Untill I joined this group, I didn't know about the plastic.
Quilted Horse, I'm pretty sure it was a kit. I used to get Herrschners catalog and think I remember seeing in one. Also, you can still see some of the blue print where the x's are for the embroidery.

clynns 05-01-2011 08:16 PM

It's beautiful. Check with your local quilt guild to see if they can hook you up with a person who does quilt appraising. They usually charge a nominal fee. My quilt guild had an appraiser come to judge a county fair and she gave appraisals while she was there. Your quilt won't have to leave your sight.

Please remember that plastic bags keeps moisture in. If it is stored lets say in an attic, the heat would cause moisture to bead on the inside of the bag. It could ruin the quilt.

Its beautiful! I wouldn't store it in plastic some guild members have and when they pulled it out it smelled awful. I'm sure that it is not always the case but that's such a beautiful quilt it would be a shame

Halo 05-01-2011 08:32 PM

I had to do a double take looking at your DH. I could have sworn that was my son laying there. How strange is that? They say everyone has a double in this world. I now know where my DS's is at. Your DH's double lives in Idaho. Your quilt is beautiful.

wvdek 05-01-2011 08:41 PM

No advice. Nice quilt and the embroidery looks like good work. Someone somewhere will want it I am sure.

I agree ,, or you can use it as a coverlet , you can also add to it , but I would just leave it as it is, love it a lot the way it is..

Lovely quilt. Not time to read all of the posts, but if someone else didn't say it: do not put it back in plastic or the attic, neither are good for long term storage of quilts. Have you considered donating it back to your church for a raffle quilt?

Suzi 05-02-2011 04:16 AM

Just lovely -------- fold it lengthwise and put it across the foot of a bed. It will be seen and enjoyed - much better than stored in the attic (in a plastic covering - NO!).

quilter68 05-02-2011 04:47 AM

University of Nebraska has a historical quilt collection. I am sure they would like to have this one. It is beautiful.
Donating it back to a church for a raffle is also a nice idea.

Kutnso 05-02-2011 04:50 AM

Lovely and the quilting is very good but no idea what it's worth.
Have a good day, Kutnso

izzybelle 05-02-2011 04:51 AM

personally-i would hate to get rid of something so beautiful-but if it is sitting in a bag, in a closet-it is not being honored as the beauiful thing that it is

piepatch 05-02-2011 04:55 AM

I don't know what the quilt is worth, but it is beautiful ! Whatever you decide to do with it, I would not put it back in the attic. Attic storage is not good for quilts because of the heat and climate changes. Having said that, your quilt looks to be in good shape.

janell2009 05-02-2011 04:57 AM

To me.. the photo of the helpful hubby and dog.. is worth a million.. have to use that for something.. I like the idea of the note pads with that photo on them.. with caption "Honey Do" It would be a hoot..

reach for the stars 2 05-02-2011 05:01 AM

Beautiful quilt. I have no idea what it is worth. Have it appraised and go from there.

Homespun 05-02-2011 05:27 AM

ROF LMBO tears in my eyes great husband.
