Keep going. You are doing great and it will grow into a big quilt one day. LOL

smagruder 07-09-2011 06:20 AM

You are doing a wonderful job. You should see my first quilt...No way will I put it on here. It was truly a disaster.....I had no idea of how to quilt....I just started sewing. Continue.... you learn something from each quilt you sew. hugs

saf 07-09-2011 06:21 AM

Great job. And I love your choice of fabric too. Can't wait to see it finished. Thanks for sharing.

lyndaloo 07-09-2011 06:38 AM

You're doing great and I love your doggies!

New Quilter 07-09-2011 06:52 AM

No need to be embarrassed...at least you have sewn your beginner's quilt together...mine is still a lovely pile of squares...I hope to get to it in "my old age"...however, since I am already 61 yrs young so I'd better get a move on...lol

You're doing wonderful!! And I love the doggie fabric, too!!

JCL in FL 07-09-2011 08:30 AM

Hey don't be silly. We all start somewhere and I think you are on the right track. Just pick fabric you enjoy and you will learn from each quilt you make. And your taste will change over time too, I know mine has.

Rose Cactus 07-09-2011 08:43 AM

It will be beautiful when you finish and you will wonder why you had doubts.

QUILTNMO 07-09-2011 09:13 AM

Hello...Hello from western NY state. I could never show my first quilt. Keep going ...you are off to a great start.

mariebaker 07-09-2011 10:37 AM

you will be amazed when you finish how the whole is so much better than each piece! be sure to show and tell when you are done :-D :-D

RDM 07-09-2011 11:01 AM

wonderful. Don't be embarrased, we all started as beginners and it should be a joy, not a contest. Pleased you have shared your first with us and know you'll be on to many more.

Marilynsue 07-09-2011 03:14 PM

Why in the world are you embarassed? Every one of us has a first quilt, and probably several attempts to that first quilt. You are doing exactly how you're supposed to be doing. Keep it up, it will get easier every day!

skydiver70 07-09-2011 03:15 PM

Looks to me like you are doing fine. You wouldn't want to see my beginner's quilt. Keep going, you'll do fine.

luce321 07-09-2011 04:52 PM

Hi, and welcome from Louisiana. You are doing a great job. Like everything else, it takes practice. Be sure to let us see the finished project.

fred singer 07-09-2011 05:19 PM

just keep on sewing I think that you are getting the idea down.

quilt crazee 07-10-2011 04:38 AM

your off to a great start!here;s a couple of tips that might make it easier for you! If you didn't cut all your fabric into squares: take your fabric, cut the width of your squares, by the width of the fabric(WOF), sew 2 set of dog+solid+dog, & 1 set solid+dog+solid. cut off selvages, cut the width of your squares. altrenating, sew 3 sets together-9patch no inset seams! IF you already cut all your squares,- you can sew sets of 3's, together then sew the rows together, again no inset seams!

Marvel 07-11-2011 07:28 AM

Your colors are great together. I love the dog print. Looks like you are doing well. Honey it only gets better fron now on.

Pieceful Quilter 07-11-2011 08:26 AM

Well, gee, that's how you start. Do something you can understand and succeed at, and then you are hooked!

You should see my first few quilts. My 20 yr. old son has my first one that I made two years ago. He helped decide the colors and how dark or light it should be. when I look at all the flubs in the design of that quilt, I just blush. BUT - my son loves it, and washes it to death. It has been on his bed for two years; he brings it down to the couch to do homework on a chilly night, throws it (cringe) in his truck to take on picnics, and in general just uses it to death. Honestly I wouldn't trade that first quilt for anything.

I hope you will feel the same way about your first ones. It is a growing process. Enjoy the ride!

roxie623 07-11-2011 10:03 AM

Oh love the doggies. You are doing a fine job and just remember we all started quilting the same way, as newbies.

Yes, I second this- it will make it a lot easier for you! Then you only have to sew straight lines, no "corners". Great job on your first project- I can see that your very first set of corners are lined up well, those can be tricky so good job! : ) btw, I've been quilting off and on for 15 years and I'm still a beginner, and expect that I always will be- there is always much, much more to learn when it comes to quilting! : )

Welcome to the board, and to the world of quilting. I see nothing for you to be embarrassed about. You quilt is going to be just great, don't be so hard on yourself

Rumbols 07-11-2011 01:16 PM

Welcome aboard. Doing a great job, have fun.

Pinklady 07-13-2011 12:39 PM

I did a quilt for my dh for father's day. I did about the same print and pattern, except my squares ,that you have solid color, I did a material that had types of dogs in words. It turned out fairly nice for a throw quilt.
Keep going, and welcome from Haw River, NC

judyhh 07-25-2011 08:58 PM

It is going to be great when you are finished. I am not the most proud of some of my finished products. BUT,I enjoy doing it and I am going to continue until I get it right. LOL
