Working with White Fabric -almost done!
3 Attachment(s)
Here is my quilt that I was having so much trouble working with the white fabric. I took it off the longarm yesterday and just need to do the binding. I sure learned a lot with this quilt: 1)Make sure I use better quality white fabric that isn't so see thru. 2)Do a practice block before starting the quilt. I took off sewing the trillion pieces together before I understood the dynamics of the block. 3)If using white on the front, be careful what I put on the backing! I had a dark polka dot and it showed through my batting. Well, the batting I started with was Quilters Dream Puff. I thought that would look really nice... Ha! The batting was puffy alright, but totally see thru! So I put that back on my shelf for some other project. I'd read where some people use two layers of cotton batting, so I used two layers of Bright and White. It worked! You can't see the dots from the back, it's puffy and the seems on the front almost disappeared! But.... it is heavy and doesn't drape very well.
So, that's my sob story! All in all, the quilt looks pretty good, will be very warm and heavy for someone! I think this will go on my self for a while before I decide what to do with it. :D |
I like it

It turned out beautifully.

It's a beautiful quilt - bind it and wash it, the drape will soften.
|
Very nice. I love how it turned out. And your quilting is lovely!

It's so pretty. Someday the quilt will find its perfect match!
|
I love it, I have that fabric, the quilt I'm working on with that fabric is very time consuming.
|
The quilt looks very pretty. You did a good job on it.
|
Your quilt is gorgeous. Seems like we learn something with every quilt.
|
I think it's beautiful.

I'm sorry you had such troubles making this quilt but I must tell you the end result is wonderful. It's a lovely quilt and I like it a lot.
|
This quilt turned out beautifully......your border choice just makes all the colors in the blocks pop. I really like it !
|
Looks beautiful!

Its a wonderful quilt. I personally love two layers of cotton batting , preferring weight when I sleep. Two layers of cotton batting is not really that over the top warm.

My go to white is Legacy Studios (LS) Premium Muslin Bleached - the natural is good too. I usually purchase it when there is a 50% off coupon, like in the new flyer. I buy the 108" simply because it is more than double width and it is only $12.99 before the coupon. Nice tight weave, opaque, soft, and great drape. It is the same base fabric that all of the wonderful Legacy Studio prints are printed on. Great stuff.

Very pretty quilt. I really like the full picture. It shows just how well the blocks tie into the border. And I love the border fabric. (It would make a good one block wonder.) Good for you to keep at it until you got it right. I'm sure those lessons will help you later.

Beautiful quilt! I've heard also Quilters Dream Puff with a layer of their thin cotton. Or maybe thin cotton layered with the dream puff between.
|
I really, really like your quilt. The orange makes it for me.

The quilt is beautiful...lessons learned the hard way are the one's we least forget. I had a similar experience when I chose a dark backing for a quilt with white sashing. I also neglected to pre-wash the back which caused dark blue to bleed across to the front is some places. Luckily another washing took the pigment away. Don't let the quilt sit on your shelf too long, I'm sure it will be just right for someone.
