I read the paper a little late today, trying to leave for vacation tomorrow. Looked a bit while eating lunch and saw "BARGAIN Quilters Friday - Sunday 7 - 2, Fabric $1 to $2 yard." Well it was about 1:00 when I found the location, a seniors' mobile home park, on yahoo maps and decided that it wasn't too far away not to have a look. The mom who used to teach quilting passed and son wants to empty out the house. Very nice man who knew his mother would prefer that other quilters have her stash. The large pieces in the back are at least 3 yards with a few 4 - 5 yards. The smaller pieces are mostly 1/4 yards with a few 1/2 to 1 yard pieces. Then all the pre-cuts, she had bags of them sorted by color. I just grabbed a few 1 1/4" and 2" strips. As I was getting ready to go he said, "Why don't you grab a few quilting books too, no charge." Truly a quilter's heaven. I should have bought more as there were boxes still left!

Just re-read your posting that said till Sunday.

If so, I can buy a Modesto Bee and google the address and run up there, or have my niece who lives there drop by for me.

Grandma58 05-06-2011 04:51 PM

You did well!

dyer804 05-06-2011 04:51 PM

I just packed my find away - don't want any burglars to get it while I'm gone! Did a quick measure/estimate and I think it is at least 60 yards plus the three books! I almost don't want to go away so I can start sewing! I feel so blessed by the quilter and her family sharing her treasure.

cjomomma 05-06-2011 05:05 PM

You certainly got a nice selection. I can see two or three quilts in the stack. How nice that her son passed the fabric along to those who'd appreciate it.

When I hear these stories or I get a chance to purchase at such a sale - it makes me want to go home and sew sew sew sew sew...so sad the previous owner couldn't finish everything they wanted to.

fleurdelisquilts.com 05-06-2011 07:56 PM

I've got to start reading the paper. You did great. One question though: how did you leave with fabric still there? I don't know if I could have left any fabric behind!

I would have needed a 12 passenger van with the seats removed to get it all and I was there at the end of the day! So many pretty fabrics. I know what I'll dream about tonight!

clynns 05-06-2011 08:22 PM

First thing I did was to scroll back up to see if you were in Ohio and where the trailer park was. LOL Oh well, it all went to a good home. Sigh...

Jingle 05-06-2011 08:28 PM

Beautiful fabrics, sneak the quilt books into a bag and you can spend some free time deciding which quilt to make first. Lucky you.

Sewfine 05-07-2011 01:42 AM

cyniree 05-07-2011 04:25 AM

Wow, nicely done

mshollysd 05-07-2011 04:30 AM

I went rummaging yesterday after work, and went to a "Crafters delight and fabric" house and thought the fabric was going to be great, however it was premade stuff that the rummager's mom made to keep active, like wallhangings, etc. They had a few items that were little pieces and I told them I am more of a yarder, than a piecer. LOL
