Wrapped Up In Grandma's Love

10 Attachment(s)
Made for a friend at work. Her sister was having her first baby. A few months before the baby was born, their grandmother passed away. So my friend asked me if I could make a baby quilt out of her grandmother's clothes for the great-granddaughter she'd never meet. The appliqued animals were made out of scraps from my stash. All the other pieces (the background of the animals) and the other squares and lattice work were made out of the grandmothers clothes, mostly PJ's and some shirts. It was presented to the baby at her Baptism. I didn't go to the Baptism, but my friend said there wasn't a dry eye when she opened it up and realized it was her grandmother's clothes.

It is wonderful. What a marvelous keepsake. I can imagine why no one was dry eyed-You must have helped to make that new baby's baptism extra special.

I was going to say that the fish was my favorite... but then I saw the dinosaur. They are all so cute. I especially love the fabric you chose for the fish.

I know - it's hard to pick a favorite. Each time I did one, that one became my favorite, but if I had to pick one I would say it's the penguin, then the duck. I think there were 4 pictures that I didn't load up because of space. They are a butterfly, frog, elephant and monkey.

Terrific quilt and especially with the "memory fabrics" used to create it. It's a winner!

cowgirlquilter 04-09-2012 08:48 AM

Aaaaawwwwww what a story.....that is why the tradition of quilting needs to be passed down to our younger generations.

Mad Mimm 04-09-2012 08:57 AM

I love to hear stories that demonstrate exactly how special quilting really is. I have no doubt this quilt will be a cherished family heirloom and something they will take great joy in. You made that possible. Congratulations!

I wish I could take the credit for the animals. It is a pattern called "Animal Party". It is from Arbee Designs Ltd and I think I bought it through either Clotilde or Keepsake in NH. I can't remember. But there is a website for Arbee Designs and it is http://www.ArbeeDesigns.com. I think it was around $13. Have fun.
