Yellow/green/blue/red quilt top

My sister asked me to make a quilt for a ladies' retreat at a camp in NC. This will be used as a door prize.

She originally asked me to try to make it like a picture I had which showed reproduction fabrics (I'm assuming 30's), of which I have none. I pulled fabrics in these colors and this is what I ended up with. It is a lot brighter than I originally envisioned, but in the end, the top turned out pretty.

It's quite different from what I've been doing and is really simple--just 5" squares, 1.5" white sashings and cornerstones--all on point. Queen size - 92x98". Although simple, I'm finding that anything "on point" is harder than not on point.

I envy the lucky winner. On point always has so much energy, I think its more than worth the extra effort.

It is lovely! Simple squares look amazing when put on point.

Very pretty. The white sashing and set on point make the blocks pop. I love it.

you did a great job... would love to win that as a door prize

nativetexan 01-08-2014 10:01 AM

but "on point" looks sooooo good. Great job!!!

quiltstringz 01-08-2014 10:20 AM

It looks wonderful and I agree that putting something on point really jazzes it up. if it is needed it is usually worth the extra effort.

I would have made it wider, but I only had 32" of it and used all of it. I have to use what I have--no "jumping in the car and heading over to the fabric store" for me as it's just not an option. I wish I had had twice as much so I could have made a 6" border but in the end, I'm pleased.

You've made a lovely quilt. Setting it on point really does make it extra special, and your colors are so well put together. The winner will be very, very lucky.

I think it is my sis's way of helping me out (she's going to pay me) and to help out the camp as she thinks a nice door prize might cause more chatter/ increase interest in the ladies' retreat they are going to have.

Jingle 01-09-2014 01:55 PM

Absolutely gorgeous. You really have a good eye for color and great stash of fabrics. I don't think it would be easy for me to give it away.
