I sat down last night and had a play with paper piecing, something I've wanted to do for ages.
And it went SO WELL! It didn't take long to get the hang of at all. The pale blue one is my first attempt, then I moved onto the other pattern. If I join four blocks together (there's two joined at the bottom of the picture) then the red lines make a diamond with a black center. I figure it would make a really nice scrappy quilt. So thank you for the inspiration, and the nerve to actually post a picture of my work. :-) |
Way to Go!!!! Be careful, paper piecing can be addictive :D There are so many cool PP patterns out there - pretty awesome job you've done, and the picture post is great too
|
I can imagine it's quite addictive, I think it may well become my favourite style. I love the tiny pieces and the precision of it, and how complicated the patterns can be and still come out perfect. You have no idea how much self control is required to not rush up to my quilt store right now and buy a whole lot of really bright fabrics to make a massive paper pieced quilt! LOL |
those are lovely, to be sure!
you are only allowed to shop 'til you drop if you post pics of all your work. ;-) |
very pretty blocks...
|
I'm envious! I am going to have to try paper piecing!
So pretty!!! :-o |
Wey hey!! Well done, you have done a really good job for your first attempt
There is such alot of free patterns out there just waiting for you to find them :D |
Blue chicken, where did you find the patterns for the squares? They are jsut gorgeous, and I'd love to see more of your work.
We're almost neighbours...... across the Tasman anyway! |
Nice work! That's a beautiful pattern. Go shopping!
|
Those look really sharp!! You did good!! And, this was your 'first' attempt??You did really-really good!Skeat
|
After seeing yours, I might try to make one!!! Great job!!
|
Wow -- how pretty!! Keep going!!!!!
|
Good for you! I like what I see.
|
WTG! Beautiful blocks! I love the bright colors! I LOVE pp and i do believe it is more addictive that regular quilting!
|
From the looks of things, I'd say you had a great time playing. Can't wait to see it completed. thanks for sharing.
|
Thanks! :-)
I found PP really easy once I got going. The pattern is a Carol Doak one, someone on here listed the website the other day and I was having a nosey. Been thinking while I was at work and there's actually enough fat quarters in my stash to make a large quilt with some seriously bright and matching colours. I have a tendency to not want to touch what's in my stash and save it for a rainy day. But being on the other side of the world to you guys, winter is on it's way, and with the whole recession thing going on we're a bit broke right now, so this must count as an almost rainy day! lol |
Great job!!
|
Wow, that is so cool. Love the bright colors. I want to try PP just haven't got up the nerve yet.

The patterns on Carol Doak's site are free for personal use only, sorry.
But there would be others out there that wouldn't be copyrighted. I think if you have a go at it, you would quickly pick up the basics and could quite easily design your own patterns. Especially the popular "star" form. |
I love your star blocks, very cool the way it sets into a star at the end.
I have a pattern my neighbor gave me that I want to do when I get more of my UFO's finished. It is a dragonfly one. She knew how much I love the garden and the things you find there so she bought it for me while on vacation. What a sweetie, huh? Hey that is way better than a tee shirt! Keep up the good work. There is no sense having good fabric if you aren't going to use it. Then you can buy more! :D |
Absolutely way better than a t-shirt! :-)
|
The pattern I used is Carol Doak's Y2K pattern. :-) |
Those blocks really look great! I love pp, too, especially since Yvonne taught me!

Your pp turned out great!!!! Love the color combinations.
Secondly, didn't realize that we had a tute here on paper pieceing until I read Sharons reply to you. This is so exciting!!!!!!!!!!! I'm going to try it right now!! Oh, I mean after I make dinner............ |
I LOVE your blocks!! You are doing an awesome job--no beginner here!!
|
Just look at that! You must be a quick study. Those are beautiful. I love the black background with the lively colors. Can't wait to see it finished.
|
I am anxious to try PP also---I am tired of "seeing" my points get "clipped" off a little often when piecing. PP looks so precise and it looks like you have already mastered the technique! Bravo!!!
|
Great job Blue Chicken! I tried PP once and it beat me, guess I'll have to try it again.
|
Oh my gosh I'm so impressed.....what a stunning job!!.....:-).......

Wow... thanks guys... my head is swelling now! ;-)

|
WOW, you have inspired me!!! Good job! I have stayed away from PP - it looks so hard to do, but now I really want to try it. Thanks so much for your pictures.
|
BEAUTIFUL!
Love all the bright colors! :D :D :D |
