Depends on how large you want the quilt to be. If you do black border, you could then piece your binding to incorporate all your fabrics, including the red.

looks fabulous!
definitely a wide black border [6"?]
{wider than the outer most border already on]

I would just bind it in black. I think it's great looking as is.

Me too, I agree!

I see a solid black border about twice the width of the solid black sashing on the inner section.

Next would be a very narrow red strip, done as a flange.

Then finish off with solid black again, 3 or 4 times the width of the sashing. Bind in the same black.

This way the red strip will just gently float in as part of the border, yet provide some punch while not detracting from the overall focus of the main part of the quilt.

This great quilter explained so much better than I can what I was visualizing!!!!! Thanks for helping me out!

Ditto on the black border. Excellent quilt. Great design and fabric choices!

If you are going to use another print for the binding, I'd definitely recommend that you put a black outer border on first. Its looking great!

I say black, great quilt.

I really like it.

Your quilt is beautiful love the black and white. I have a question what is that foldy stuff done on muslin?? It looks like your strips are folded. How is this done?

Really pretty.

You draw the grid on muslin, then each strip is cut 3 inches wide and folded in half and sewn to the muslin so that the blocks are 3 D. The Ricky Tims method of constructing flying geese only uses one seam and it also makes a folded 3-D goose. I plan to hand quilt a black X in each block using # 5 black pearl cotton in order to preserve the 3-D
effect and not flatten it out as conventional quilting would. I hope that explains it. There is a web site for foldy stuff patterns.

Nice! Clever how you used the flying geese on only 2 corners. Love it!

love the varied border. nice job

Very cool quilt! I think the bias binding will look great - especially if you add black first to help it stand out. If you need the quilt a lot bigger, I can even visualize an inch of red, then two inches of black...

Let us see it again when it is done!

wuv2quilt 10-16-2011 06:36 AM

Oh yes, the black would really pop :)

very impressive, would add a black border.
