I did not have a pattern for this WIP. It is the "foldy stuff" courthouse steps block done on a muslin foundation, plus Ricky Tims one seam flying geese, with some sashing strips used because it was soooo bulky ( 6 layers in a 1/4 inch seam).
Now, my question is, should I add another solid black outer border? If so, how large? The solid black sashing strips are 1 inch finished. I plan to bind with the bias stripe black and white that is used as the first step out from the red center on the dark sides of the steps. Thank you in advance for your advice. |
Great work! Really like the quilt! Depending on how large you want the quilt, I would add a black border - 2-3" - and bind with your suggested fabric.

I agree. Black border. And wow, stunning quilt and in my favorites colors. Love Ricky Timms too. Was able to go to one of his classes before ,followed by a concert by him. Thanks for sharing.

Do you need it bigger? I would put a black border on in the 2 inch size of the inner log cabin blocks or all the way up to the size of the large last border size. It's a great looking quilt and the striped black and white bias binding will make a nice finish.

I would make a border either slightly smaller or larger than the outside borders on their now. If you border in black I question using the striped fabric for the binding as it may make it too busy and distracting on the edge. This is just my opinion. You have done such a marvelous job with this quilt I know that whatever you decide will be stunning on this lovely quilt.

That is beautiful!

That's a real neat quilt. I think I would like to see a black border.

If you don't need it to be bigger I would call it done and add a solid black border.
very nice. i love the colors
You've got a really nice quilt there!
I see a solid black border about twice the width of the solid black sashing on the inner section. Next would be a very narrow red strip, done as a flange. Then finish off with solid black again, 3 or 4 times the width of the sashing. Bind in the same black. This way the red strip will just gently float in as part of the border, yet provide some punch while not detracting from the overall focus of the main part of the quilt. |
it's beautiuful. i would also finish with a black border and then bind off. hope this helps.
IMHO a black border at 1/3 width of last border red flange at 1/2" (1 in.folded in half) then your binding. ???
Okay, now I have read all the other comments and I see that we all agree Black and a little red. Beautiful quilt. |
Becky, did you enjoy making those flying geese??? I loved making them. I did a whole border with them. Now I can't decide if I want to quilt them down or not :)
Beautiful quilt!!!!! Thanks for showing us. |
Beautiful quilt!
I like the black dot as a border then bind with solid black. Pretty quilt, by the way.
Yes I would add the final border! Great looking quilt!

I would add a fat black boarder...maybe 2-3 inches bigger than the current outer part. but I like big boarders. :)
it is pretty awesome! |
I agree -black -several inches. Very pretty.
Personally?? If I had the black with white dots I would use that. The straight black seems too plain for this busy quilt.
Also I agree... THis is a beautiful quilt. |
I love it.
Like it so far. I would do the binding in black.
black
I like it like it is. I would quilt it and add a black binding
Your quilt is very pretty as is, but I think another black border would finish it off beautifully.
I agree with the black border, but I do not agree with the "on hand" fabric for the binding. My opinion is that it would put too much busy-ness into the quilt. I believe the black border 3 inches wide and the black binding, would m,ake the blocks pop.
depending how much larger you want to make it, border or binding needs to be black, if I put an actual border on it though I would bind with red
Unless you need it to be bigger I would just quilt it and bind it in black.
I would use the black border. It's a beautiful quilt and the black border would frame it nicely. I'd say 2"-3"would be good.
I like it. I think it's cool.
Very nice, think a black border would be good.
I agree!!

I would not add another border; bind in solid black.
I love it! You did a great job! I like the colors! I would also finish with a black border and then bind red off!
Thanks for sharing! A big hug! |
Nice quilt! I would use black as a border and your fabric you suggested for the binding. Can't wait to see it done!
Black border and black binding would be my choice. Lotsa drama already. And congrats on a gorgeous quilt!
