A while back, I posted pics of my Zipper Quilt top. Well, my mom has a Juki with a 10" harp mounted into a quilting frame, and she graciously offered to quilt this queen size top for me.

And she did such a great job. I chose a medium brown thread, as I wanted something that would show up on both the white and black squares. If I quilted with white thread, it would be invisible on the white squares and similarly for black thread on the black squares. I'm really happy with the colour and the groovy random meander pattern my Mom did is perfect for the modern style of the quilt.

That came out great. I decorate modern too, so it's always nice to see these types of quilts!

belmer 06-10-2010 09:40 AM

Fantastic! love this pattern too.

UglyCook 06-10-2010 09:43 AM

I like this! Modern but snuggly and you do excellent work.

Marjpf 06-10-2010 09:46 AM

Gorgeous. I also really like what you did with the wall behind your bed. Is it wall paper or a stencil? Hand painted?

heather_campbell 06-10-2010 09:54 AM

Marjpf, the wall behind the bed is actually wall stickers from IKEA. They were cheap and come with a bunch of different branches and birds. You can put them up in any pattern. I just happened to build a tree!

quiltinggirl 06-10-2010 09:56 AM

Very nice and the quilting your mother did is fantastic work too! :)

heather_campbell 06-10-2010 09:57 AM

quiltinggirl - I agree, the quilting makes it fabulous. There is no way i could have quilted it this nicely on my own. She keeps telling me I should show it at a quilt show, but I think it's as much her quilt as mine!

sueisallaboutquilts 06-10-2010 10:01 AM

I am about as dense as they get !! I thought " what in the world is a zipper quilt" lololol Wow, it wouldn't be very comfortable!! Your quilt is GREAT!!!!!!! Thanks for teaching me what they really are!! :D:D:D

Love, love, love this pattern. You picked great fabrics and your Mom did a super quilting job! Pat yourself on the back. And PS--Love the wall treatment behind the bed.

Lori L 06-10-2010 02:41 PM

I just showed the quilt to my daughter and she said "make me one". Sure thing.....I'll get right on that. haha

heather_campbell 06-10-2010 02:58 PM

virtualbernie, you can find the pattern in the book "The Modern Quilt Workshop" by Bill Kerr and Weeks Ringle. Here's a link to the book on Amazon.

http://www.amazon.com/Modern-Quilt-W.../dp/1592531520

It's the same quilt as on the front cover, but obviously in much different fabrics.

Thanks everyone for all the compliments! I really appreciate it. This is only my 3rd quilt ever, and I'm about to undertake a 4th one, so it's nice to have a boost of confidence.

roseOfsharon 06-10-2010 03:01 PM

Oh That quilt is very nice !

pab58 06-10-2010 04:20 PM

Is this your own design? I've never seen it before. I really love it!!

Thank you mam! I looked it up. Your quilt looks way, way better! Gonna order the book. Thanks again!

heather_campbell 06-10-2010 05:09 PM

Bernie, you will not regret buying the book. It is FULL of really cool quilts. Thanks for the compliment on my quilt. I was worried my colours were too wide a range of value for this quilt (in the book, they recommend using colours that are more similar in value) but I am really happy with how it looks.

1quilt_gma 06-10-2010 05:11 PM

Very nice!

If I hadn't seen your quilt first I wouldn't have ordered the book :)

Sue, that's great they had the book at the library. You might want to hang on to it for a while once you do get it!

GrammaNan 06-12-2010 03:15 PM
